I’m sure a couple of you are already stressing whether your favorite show will be renewed or not .Well I come bearing gifts. This is the time of the year when I get really, really excited… and so should you! Pilot season is well underway and lots of them have already begun filming. You have to figure that probably less than half of the pilots will get ordered. (We do offer a crying shoulder if your favorite pilot doesn’t make the cut.)

What’s a better place to start with our favorite network, The CW? The CW has 8 pilots this year and usually only 3 or 4 pilots get an order. I’m guessing they’ll go for 4 pilots this year. (It’s not looking very good for their freshman series + They’re having some ratingproblems with their other shows except TVD and Supernatural.) Although there could be some surprises!

Let’s start with those that are generating quite the buzz already.

  • The Selection: This is one I’m particularly looking forward to. It’s an adaption of a YA-novel by Kiera Cass. (The book isn’t out yet; it’s being released in April.) The Selection is an epic romance set 300 years in the future which centers on a poor young woman who is chosen by lottery to participate in a competition to become the next queen of a war-torn nation at a crossroads. This sounds a little bit like The Hunger Games, and I’m pretty sure that’s why The CW is so interested in this pilot. The cast is also really amazing, featuring Aimee Teegarden, William Mosely, and Ethan Peck as the leads.
  • The Carrie Diaries: Remember that pilot Valley Girls about Lily Van der Woodsen’s earlier life in the 1980s? This is basically the same… but only about Carrie Bradshaw. Sex and the City fans rejoice! The series centers around her beginning to question sex, love, and friendship in… Manhattan. Sounds familiar, no? Anyway, they will need another Gossip Girl after that show is gone. If The CW goes through with this one, they sure have a lot to live up to. (Not talking about that second horrendous movie.)  Cast includes AnnaSophia Robb, Austin Butler, and Brendan Dooling.
  • Arrow : This pilot is about the legendary DC Comic ‘The Green Arrow.’ Before all you Justin Hartley (and Smallville) fans are going get hysterical. No, Justin Hartley is not going to play Green Arrow in this series because it’s a totally different storyline, but they are keeping options open to introduce other comic book characters! One face you’ll certainly recognize is Katie Cassidy! The CW can’t get enough of her, obviously. The male lead goes to Stephen Amell. Am I the only one who is really looking forward to this pilot? I hope not.

The other 5 have a slightly less chance of getting the order, but they’re also quite interesting.

  • Cult: This pilot is already becoming widely known around by The Vampire Diaries fans. No other than our favorite history teacher/crazy person Alaric, aka Matt Davis, got the male lead for this pilot. After a rash of disappearances and a likely murder, an inquisitive, young female production assistant on a wildly popular television show called “Cult” joins a journalist blogger in investigating the rabid fans of the series who might be re-creating crimes seen on the program, in real life. They are targeting this pilot for a midseason airing, with a maximum episode count of 13 episodes per season. So if this gets ordered, Matt Davis could possibly do two shows without intervening schedules.
  • Beauty and the Beast: This one is a special one, because The CW isn’t the only network working on a beauty and the beast pilot. They both have different storylines, though. In the CW version, it’s centers around a homicide detective, played by Smallville alum Kristin Kreuk who meets the beast Vincent. Vincent is ‘the beast’ who saved her when she was younger, shot with a DNA-changing drug, that altered his appearance. He became involved in a case she was working on, only trying to help. After a while she believes him and promises to help him stay hidden. In the series, Vincent becomes sort of a batman for the city. Jay Ryan plays Vincent.
  • First Cut: Glad to leave her past behind, a new doctor discovers that life is basically the same as in High School. I don’t know if I find this premise that appealing. Maybe they need a new medical drama if Hart Of Dixie doesn’t get renewed. But they are more interesting pilots this year on the CW. The cast features Justin Hartley, Mamie Gummer, and Michael Rady.
  • Shelter: This premise is also not that appealing but the people that are behind this are Mark Schwahn and J.J.Abrams. This is a drama set in a summer ressort where the staff attend to every need of the customer while navigating needs of their own. It’s definitely not original. Filming has not begun; they only have one cast member, Elisabeth Henstridge. I’m not seeing this as a good sign.
  • Joey Dakota: Based on the Israeli format Danny Hollywood. In this romantic-time-travel-musical, a documentary filmmaker travels back in time to the 1990s where she meets and falls in love with the rock star subject of her film. When she unexpectedly returns to present day, she must find her way back to the past to reunite with her love and prevent his untimely death. This cast features Amber Stevens, Craig Horner, and Scott Wolf.

So are you also really excited? And which one of these pilots would you give an order? Sound off in the comments!
