Glee Reality Index: Recap of ‘Yes/No’

Mr. Schue's proposal was a little intimidating if Emma had planned on saying no.

We all know that Glee is based in a heightened reality, where there is more than one good singer in show choir and more straight than gay guys in show choir. However, sometimes the episodes can stray too far from reality and this here is an index (loosely entirely based on Daily Intel’s Tuesday Morning Gossip Girl Reality Index) of what the show got right about life in high school and what was completely off base.

More realistic than Mr. Schue telling the glee club that he’s planning to propose to Emma, because let’s face it; these kids are his only friends.
– Girls grilling one another for relationship details +5
– Becky speaking like the Queen of England inside her head +3
– “Is that a Mohawk Puckerman, or did somebody clue a dead squirrel to you head?” +2
– Emma’s outfit +1
– The gym teacher gets married and nobody notices +1
– The only team with spaces left is Synchro-Swimming +4
– Mr Schue has the moves like jagger +5
– Breadsticks is the only restaurant in Lima that the kids from McKinley go to on dates +2
– According to Rachel Berry you should spend 2 months salary on an engagement ring – straight from the De Beers press roll. +1
– The guy with shit grades and shit athletic skills wants to join the army so he doesn’t end up a drop out +2
– All the show choir girls are permanently broken hearted… and sing about it. +5
– Santana +1 (just because if I went that way… I would.)
– Becky’s mom says she has “get down syndrome” +3
– Sexting, realistic, but so, so wrong so wash.
– Rachel Berry has been “trolling the NYADA chat rooms” +2
– Lea Michelle’s “Without You” cover +50
– Emma says yes to the proposal because as the school counsellor could she have said no and brutally taught the Glee club about the harsh realities of love in such a public way? +4
– Rachel still doesn’t understand why Finn ran off so quickly after telling him that he could kiss her +5 some girls never learn.

Total: +96

Faker than the synchro-swim coaches hair
– Boys grilling one another for relationship details -1 (do you do this? If you do, you’re quite subtle.)
– School kids breaking into songs from Grease at lunch -3
– High school relationships ending over “I like hotdogs and he likes pizza.” Oh wait… wash.
– Mercedes having any loyalty to Shane in the face of a proposition from Sam who is at least 3 ranks higher than her on the social scale -7
– Mr Schue asks Finn to be his best man -3
– Teachers have interesting lives outside of school -2
– Finn thought that they were all actually going to get out of Lima (doesn’t he know that would ruin the show?) -4
– Rachel is set not to get into NYADA and then she covers ‘Without You’ and it hits iTunes no.1 because it was so freaking awesome! Show these NYADA folks this! -40
– Emma (the high-school counsellor) has leaflets about being a spinster -1
– “We found love in a hopeless place, we found love in a hopeless place, we found love in a hopeless place…” the school pool? Yes, hopeless -2
– Mr Schue’s outfit of choice for the proposal -5
– Finn’s proposal -20. OK it is realistic that guys that want to propose while still in high-school, but I’m convinced none of them do it that eloquently and I’m convinced he wouldn’t have the nerve to spring something like that on Rachel Berry. Also there is no way Rachel Berry would accept an engagement ring that she hadn’t picked out.

Total: -88

Grand total: +3, this episode had enough ridiculous references to stupidly realistic teenage things that it came out on the positive side. Were there any moments that you thought were ridiculous or do you disagree with my marking? Let NoWhiteNoise know in the comments below with your own + and – of this week’s Glee!

  • I don't watch GLEE but you're making me want to. HAHAHAHAAAA!!! It would be so much funnier if I actually watched ahhh!

"- Teachers have interesting lives outside of school -2" LMFAO I can't.

  • Okay the whole proposal was -6000. Like seriously, how ridiculous can you get? Also the fact that these upon receiving sheet music, these kids know every note, every lyric, are perfectly in tune and have perfect choreography at least twice every episode is flat out ridiculous. -3 billion.
