NBC is going out of its way to promote Smash and the rest of its shows even if it means making every person who appears on it sing. Yep, you read right, sing. And it was epic in all proportions. By everyone, I literally mean everyone, except maybe Jimmy Fallon.
The ad starts with a scene from 30 Rock where Jack is throwing a Superbowl party for Liz and the gang and then he suddenly breaks into a song that somehow transforms into one of the numbers from the Broadway musical How to Succeed in Business Without Actually Trying.
Liz: “Are we in a Super Bowl commercial?”
And then the cast of The Office follow, Parks & Recreation, Community, Smash, Law & Order, The Voice, The Tonight Show, Parenthood, Are You There, Chelsea?, Up All Night, The Apprentice, The Today Show, SNL, and finally Harry’s Law, they all are a part of that amazingly amazing number.
They’re basically trying to tell you that they are proud to be in the brotherhood of man that is NBC.
If it were any other channel, if it were any other actors, it would have been awkward and just a tad uncomfortable. Can you imagine Madeleine Stowe from ABC singing? Or the guys from all the cop shows on CBS? No other network could pull it off except NBC because it has this ensemble of few of the most giddy, comedic people on the planet.
If that commercial didn’t make you wanna watch every single show on the network, I don’t know what would. It was just too good, every second of it was exactly what it needed to be: cheesy yet brilliant.
If you didn’t catch the commercial, here it is:

I must have missed this last night… but it was a great ad! They did this the last time they did the Super Bowl, but not at this length. And it wasn't them actually singing.
Love this ad so much (above!) And Amy Poehler can sing O_O
