Mystic Harbor Ep 2: Diana’s cleavage gets more screen time than Bonnie

Welcome to episode two of NoWhiteNoise’s The Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle podcast. This week we… uh… discuss both shows, as will be the usual, which encompasses how much we don’t care about Sage, Alaric going crazy, and the lack of screen time for Bonnie. Meanwhile, on the Secret Circle half of things, we discuss Cassie and Adam as a pairing, Faye not caring about Lee once she realized he was dead, John Blackwell duping everybody — and extremely important! — Diana’s cleavage. It gets its own mention.

We also discuss, in the beginning, a bit about the Twitter fiasco that took place with TVD and what it means for the season as a whole.

I hope you enjoy episode 2 of Mystic Harbor! I promise, little by little, we’re going to be making them shorter. Also, it seems like Monday is our publish day. So, until next Monday! And remember you can find my review of TVD and McKenzie’s review of TSC right here on NoWhiteNoise.com!

  • Just a suggestion, you could add some background songs. I think it would make the podcast much more entertaining, specially because we're talking about CW shows, which always means, in my opinion, amazing soundtrack choices.

    • You mean we're boring and should fill up our boringness with good music!? XD I would do this if it didn't mean we'd be doing it illegally.

    • Which part the sibling part or his Cassie "love"? Either way, I agree back (obviously)!

  • I don't think JP could make Klaus/Caroline work like Jeremy/Bonnie eventually seemed to work, though both pairings kind of came out of nowhere. Historically speaking it would be inconsistent for both characters.

If JP was upset with fan reaction she didn't need to acknowledge fans. Take a more professional approach and ignore the fans or giving a faux-planation. Then keep it moving.

And I didn't know Meredeth's actress was Paul Wesley's wife. Haha, interesting.

Abby might come back according to some of Persia's tweets. But then again if they film any scenes they may not see the light of day.

And it was very messed up that Caroline was the last person to see Abby. I blame Elena! XD

Wow, we saw Jenna's funeral but not Gram's. Messed up.

Jamie will be another dead negro by the end of the season. It's inevitable. They always kill off POCs.

We've got no Latino characters (though we have one actor, Trevino), two black characters (two living and six plus dead), no Asian characters (all three actresses/characters that I know of dead). Absolutely no native characters, just mentions during the Vikings in Virginia episode.

That threesome was so boring. This show would surprise me if actually saw women masturbating or some same sex loving. Or hey, POC loving on screen. But no.

Originals are no longer a threat so killing them off would be a lackluster feat. The Originals just need to disappear or something. They just need to end this season and come up with a new storyline. Maybe something that involves Bonnie.

At this point I would love for Bonnie to become a villain, though a well justified one, just so she can go out with a bang. Go Dark Willow on these bitches.

  • I love what you said about Elena being okay with letting Stefan go and then doing a complete 360 two episodes later! So true. I'm glad you guys pointed it out.

  • Fo real though, you two were on point with the Bonnie storyline...or lack thereof. This is hysterical! Can't wait to tune in again.

  • What I've learned that ever since it was confirmed that Jamie was Bonnie new love interest, information has been coming out that fully cements that this pairing is ridiculous. Robert Ri'Chard gave an interview, saying that Jamie gives a paternal vibe with Bonnie, that is the wrong word to use when you trying to sell this couple to the viewers. Next we learn they have the same last name, didn't Julie Plec say that Jamie was just living with Abby, so why does he have her name. My problem is not only with the Bonnie crap storyline, but my interest with this show is hanging by a thread, I remember some of the actors were tweeting about tuning in so people job wouldn't be in jeopardy, but when you are selling a product, people expect it to be good, Im not I want people out of the job, but seriously though this show needs to shape up.

  • This is my first time listening and in less than 3 minutes I cringed (incorrect use of the word literally). ): The recap didn't seem very structured for tvd it was kind of all over the place. You guys were laughing all the time it made everything seem less serious. You don't know that Jamie is going to die, he could be like a good human friend for bonnie like matt is for elena. Bonnie = Dues Ex Machina, is that what you're trying to say?  If you guys don't like the show why do you watch and make podcasts about it? Sorry this was too long I could only listen for 18 minutes

    • We do like the show, but just because you like something doesn't mean you can't have criticisms about it. Yes, we giggle a lot... we never said this podcast was going to be serious all the time. We're just fans expressing our opinion and inviting other fans to comment on the recently aired episode.

Sorry you couldn't listen for more than 18 minutes... it's not for everyone.

    • I don't think you've been watching this show very closely as it relates to POC characters. Either Jamie will disappear or they will kill him. End of story. After three seasons Bonnie has never interacted with another character of color for longer than two or three episodes before they're dead or they just disappear. Gram's dead. Where's her cousin? Luka is dead. Where's her father? Her mother is gone (may come back but I doubt it).

Anyway, we don't watch this show to torture ourselves. Contrary to popular belief, you can watch a show and have an opinion that isn't absolutely positive. You can be critical and you can analyze things. These types of skills aren't solely for schoolwork. Everything in culture has meaning and has an impact. Even TV shows. Why else do people care about maturity ratings and content regulation? B/c these things can affect people.

There are tons of things that I either enjoy or consume regularly that I don't always agree with. With this show I only stay to see if Bonnie's character ever improves. I'm just now deciding that after three seasons I think I'm ready to quit. Watching this show can be like torture some times. The show has a lot of problems. But people like me, we critique the things that we consume b/c we wish that things were better. We want things to be better.

I couldn't be quiet about the problems with this show. With my lived experiences I've become more vocal about the things that trigger a reaction in me. Media can be a reflection of reality, and for that reason I take it very seriously. I can't accept the fact that Damon raped Caroline. I can't accept the fact that Damon forcibly turned Abby and neither her nor his brother apologized to her. I can't accept the fact that Elena accepts two murderous vampires into her life and can only summon the strength to release a hissy fit whenever they harm someone she claims to love and care about.
