Hart of Dixie 1×17 ‘Heart to Hart’ review: It Just Got Real

Welcome back from hiatus and welcome to the my first Hart of Dixie review! Dixie prides itself on being more of a lighthearted show to its predecessor Gossip Girl (even though that show’s been a hot mess for a while now). Some were quick to write of Zoe Hart and Co because there never seemed to be any real meaty drama. Tonight, that pretty much changed.

Not that I minded having a bubbly happy CW show, because let’s face it we sometimes need a break from the backstabbing, demons, and bloodsucking, but HoD has been building a couple of things that really needed to break. FINALLY.

One big portion is Zoe’s reunion with estranged father Dr. Ethan Hart. Ethan straight up abandoned his girl when he found out that she wasn’t really his daughter. He found out over two decades into their relationship, so seriously dude? Not even a call back?

I loved what Addie said about how being a parent is a hell of a lot more than biology. Zoe needed a wakeup call when she was considering her father’s proposal that they be “colleagues and maybe friends.” Question though, when Ethan and Zoe got into the confrontation at the Breeland’s did George and Lemon hear the entire thing? Including how Zoe didn’t deny her feelings for George?

I’m glad Zoe and her father were able to make up. That was the most honest and real I’ve ever seen Zoe. Now let’s move on to the other storyline that’s been building an entire season. Lemon and Lavon’s affair. Lemon has been panicked about Zoe leaking the secret to George even though Zoe had no intent to do so. Lemon also just needed another reason to be a pain in the ass and hate Zoe. Now none of that matters because George has seen them kiss.

Basically this all could’ve been avoided if Lemon had just confessed to sleeping with Lavon while she and George were “on a break.” Breaks are bullshit and confusing anyway. The part that matters is George is about to marry this woman and she still loves another man.

Now that the dirty laundry is out, next week’s bachelorette episode should get VERY interesting. Also thank you to the wardrobe department for dressing Rachel Bilson in something other than a man tailored blouse that buttons up to her chin. She’s too cute for that.

  • This episode was probably one of my favorites. I enjoyed the drama a lot. And I enjoyed seeing Rachel Bilson pull the drama off so well.
