The Vampire Diaries: Homicide, murder, and mass murder

In my first article, I wrote about which characters had committed homicide (excluding turnings and resurrection by magic ring) or murder and which had not on The Vampire Diaries. In this article, I looked at the number of homicides and murders in order to separate the murderers from the mass murderers. The actual number of murders committed by characters doesn’t differ greatly so I extrapolated, e.g, the Originals and Sage have probably killed many werewolves, long lived vampires that kill humans for food must rack up a lot of murders, and so on. I was unable to peg a number to some of the characters. Below you will see that many characters have not committed murder but some have committed many murders. Plus, there’s pie charts!

Character studies

Liz
Liz killed Jeremy. Liz didn’t intend to harm Jeremy. Liz knew that vampires were fast. Liz knew Jeremy was right behind Damon. Liz shot at Damon. Jeremy’s death was a criminally negligent homicide.

Matt
Matt killed Finn, Sage and Troy. Matt intended to kill Finn. There weren’t extenuating circumstances. Matt was of sound mind. Stefan wasn’t in imminent danger from Finn. Matt murdered Finn.

Logan
Logan murdered some of the staff and guests at a hotel.

Stefan
The wall in Stefan’s apartment in Chicago has a few hundred names or more of people he’s killed. They might not be all murders.

Klaus
Klaus has killed thousands I’d estimate.

Counting just the homicides in the series, Stefan has committed the most homcides at 13. Five of his homicides were in the defense of others, though.
