Continuum 1×01 ‘A Stitch In Time’ recap: Liber8 strikes back!

Should you watch Continuum? Hell yes, you should! This new Showcase series premiered yesterday and it was oh so good! Yeah maybe the episode suffered from some pilot-itis, but it was such a great set-up. Overall it was just really good!

Kiera Cameron, a cop from the year 2077, is unexpectedly transported to the year 2012 along with 8 deadly terrorists from the movement Liber8, leaving her husband and son behind. She took this time travelling rather well, Kiera you champ! She managed to arrest one of the terrorists by injecting some fluid she brought from the future. Also, she wears this awesome suit which can do everything basically.

On the other hand, the terrorists really intended to time travel. (Only they travelled too far in time, it was meant to be 6 years.) This way they escaped their impending doom that day, with the aid of the people who arrested them in the first place.

She tries to contact one of her superiors through a micro ship planted in her brain, but ends up contacting a young boy, Alec, who happens to be the creator of all their advanced technology. He’s kind of freaked out, she’s kind of freaked out. It’s a freak-out fest!

This show doesn’t mess around. The morning after their arrival, the terrorists have managed to raid a store and blow up a really important bridge in Vancouver with no traces of any explosives. This is just the beginning according to Kiera, who has managed to infiltrate the police force as a detective from Portland!

At the police station, she interrogates Lukas Ingram, one of the terrorists, and finds out that Liber8 is starting a war in 2012. Meanwhile, the other terrorists are ganging up other members and are murdering cops for weapons. They’ve murdered Carlos ‘ partner, so Kiera becomes his new partner. She figures out that Liber8 is in need of some money and are planning to rob a bank. She murders one of the terrorists with the help of her suit and is saved by Carlos.

Turns out the bank raid was a bait, and they’ve murdered 6 policemen at the office, plus Lukas managed to escape with them. Carlos is pissed, as he should be, and is determined to arrest every one of Liber8 with the help of Kiera!

The episode ends in a flashback, we get to meet the older version of Alec. He was also the one who helped the convicts escape and clearly remembers Keira from when he was young. Dun dun dun!

Ugh, I love a good Sci-Fi show!

  • Good premiere. Kiera's a badass. Liber8 are badasses. Only 7 of Liber8 made it back though. Vancouver is the actual setting! :) Vancouver could possibly build up that much in 65 years. The tech was cool. The fx were good. Kiera's reaction to the time travel was reasonable. She was disoriented and then her cop training took over. It'd have been better if Kiera got a new identity. No cop wouldn't have asked for the badge/ID of an unknown "cop". They didn't blow up the overpass. The time travel damaged it.

Guinevere, why do you think Old Alec remembered Kiera? If he remembered her then she would remember him (unless her memory was wiped or something).

    • I don't know but I really got the impression that this all happened before like Alec said when he talked about all the possibilities of time travel. All these events could happen in a loop. Maybe that's why he helped the others escape, to make sure some events could happen in the past.
Oh I really thought it was another setting that they blew up, my bad. I really have to rewatch it again!
Plus I really love that this setting is really Vancouver for once!

      • There is the question of time travel mechanics as explained by Young Alec. It could be a loop but I doubt it's unalterable. I liked Kiera threatening Ingram's not-yet-born mother.

        • Yeah Kiera is one badass woman. And I guess the timetravel issue will unfold further on. For the loop thing, events could be altered but I think the main things will happen one way or the other, or I could be completely wrong of course! :p Ugh I love this show already! :D

  • I have to admit that I tuned in mostly because of so many memorable actors in the cast, but now it seems that the show can defend itself on its own, because the pilot was very good. :)
