Continuum 1×02 ‘Fast Time’ recap: Family blues

Oh man this show! Another great episode for newbie Continuum. They’ve added some funny elements, not that the show desperately needed that, but it was nice. Although for a person who hasn’t driven a car, and needed help to start the car. She sure is a fast learner, did they even have traffic lights there in the future? Hell I can start a car too, but would be dead after 10 minutes of cruising through traffic. But hey, that’s just me, I’m no Kiera Cameron!

Anyway Kiera’s little lie about being a Portland detective caught up with her, and was arrested. They told her she was being processed and quickly made an arrangement with Alec to deal with the problem. Their interactions are the best, and he obviously thinks Kiera is very cute.

Meanwhile, Liber8 is trying to time travel again. Only without Kellogg, actually I liked his point of view. He tried to convince them to stay, because they could do more good in 2012 than in the future. In 2012, they would not be arrested solely for their opinions, for not believing in corporate governments. In 2012, they would have 50 more years to change people opinions and with the knowledge they have, it could be different. But unfortunately, the rest just want to travel where they were meant to travel to.

They first tried time travelling through the power of the city, that didn’t work and the city lost its power for a few minutes in the process. After that they kidnapped a scientist who had built some kind of rocket, which they could use as a power source for time travelling.

Due to the great teamwork of Alec and Kiera (they are just an awesome team), she managed to escape the police station and track Liber8. Only to reveal that she wants to come home with them. This woman just wants to see her family! She released the scientist and made him promise not to tell anyone about this. Time for time travelling y’all!

I just had to gif their failed time travelling, this was one awesome explosion! It was also extremely funny that Ingram even dared to pick up one of the pieces of his device. His hand should have burned off! The police arrived and Liber8 escaped again after shooting several dudes. Just when I begin to sympathize with them, they go on a shooting spree. These guys!

You know that thing in the beginning where they found out that Kiera wasn’t Linda Williams, well yeah übergenius Alec solved that problem. Our resident hacker made her an agent working for the FBI! I love this kid. Thanks to Alec, Kiera even got a nice desk with the supplementary paper work.

The episode ended with Kiera eye-ing one of the pieces of the time travelling device, found by the police.  I’m sure she’s going to steal it.

On a sidenote: I really liked the emotional stuff too! Kellogg going to see the home of his parents. He’s really a decent guy underneath the terrorist cloak! And of course Kiera realising she isn’t going anywhere soon, although the flashbacks with her son are so boring. Enough with the son already!

  • Good follow-up. I'm glad that the identity issue was cleared up quickly. Alec is kind of a jerk but he's one of the best hackers. I like that Kiera is almost robot-like when she's doing cop things, she's awkward and annoyed alone/with Alec, and personable with with her family. It was sad seeing her cry at the desk and miss her family at the end. I like Kellog's plans. Kellog is right that Liber8 can do more in 2012 than in 2071.

It wasn't a rocket. I think the time travel failed because 8 people are needed. 7 and Kiera went back. There were only 6 and Kiera at the institute. I'm kinda annoyed with the name of the physicist because Simon Frasier is a famous Canadian and there's a Simon Fraser University in BC with a Vancouver campus.

    • Do you think Alec is a jerk? I just think he's the opposite of a jerk. I love him :p Anyway I don't think it has to do something with the amount of people. Just that the fusion reactor or rocket wasn't advanced enough. Ingram even said he had a major in something that wasn't discovered yet. I just know that I was terribly confused after Alec made his explanation. Thank god for Kiera and her small recapping 'So this guy made some kind of rocket'

      • Alec made fun of Kiera for not knowing how to drive a gas car and he asked about Kiera's son right before she was going into action against Liber8.

        • I think any kid would laugh at the fact that she didn't know how to drive the car, he's just a teen you know :p And yeah maybe it was bad timing about her son

  • I usually know if I'm going to like the show or not after seeing only the pilot. Continuum already had 2 episodes and I'm clueless. I'll keep watching for now, hoping that it develops into a good show.
