Continuum 1×07 ‘Politics Of Time’ recap: In tech we trust!

“Politics Of Time” was another good episode which showcased (‘Showcase’ get it? ahaha!) Continuum‘s ability to solve their conflicts in an original way and by awesome effects. Somebody talked about a possibility that Greg could be the big bad in the end, and after this week that could very well be the case. They’re depicting him as an untrustworthy person without any redeeming qualities.

As far as Greg goes, I’m surely convinced that he’s an ass. I would like to see why Kiera loves him so much, because right know I’m not seeing it. He cheated on her with one of her best friends and she basically forgave him right away. I can see now why she trusts her tech so much, it’s the only thing she can rely on. The only person whom she wholeheartedly trusted, broke that trust.

It’s also strange when you think about how long Kiera has been in 2012. Alec and Kiera talked about “months,” when it felt like a couple of weeks to me. It’s nice to know a time set.

As for the main conflict, I liked it. After hooking up with a lifelong friend, Carlos finds himself in a predicament when she turns up murdered the morning after. Immediately Kiera noticed something off with Carlos. He also was covering for another friend who the lady had a fight with that same evening. At first Carlos tried to hide it from Kiera and his team, but they soon catch up with his lies and he was briefly suspended after telling the head-chief about his connections to the victim.

After Kiera found out about Carlos hooking up with the victim, she did her best to clear his name. It was also good to see Kiera solve the case without Carlos, even though he hardly solves anything. Alec was also particularly funny in this episode, while trying to repair Kiera’s suit which enhanced his computers even more.

The victim was actually a reporter who allegedly had proof of financial fraud but also had an affair with that same guy. He claimed of course that he had nothing to do with any of that, and in the end that was sort of true. Because his assistant did it behind his back and arranged the deal with Kagame and the rest of Liber8. In a very awesome scene, Kiera found out that the murder was done by an athletic built woman and Alec seemed slightly shocked about the whole thing he saw. He’s just a kid, you know! The same person who murdered the reporter also tried to kill Carlos when he was showering, I kind of laughed that Carlos didn’t have any scratches from the glass. He was fighting naked on the ground on lots of glass! He has some thick skin! Anyway, in the end it was revealed that Garza, one of Liber8 was responsible for murdering the reporter.

This episode showed us that Liber8 always seems to be one step ahead of Kiera since the arrival of Kagame and now with the election of that guy, things are much more complicated than before.

The overarching theme of trust and distrust was clear with the Kellog matter. There is always something he wants from her and vice versa, but they don’t exactly trust each other. Kiera found out rather quickly about the missing piece and immediately suspected Kellog. She was convinced he was the only one able to do such a thing, what about the rest of Liber8? Surely one of them could have done the same thing. It’s only an example of how deep their distrust towards each other is.
