Jane By Design 1×16 ‘The Back-Up Dress’ recap: Playing grown-up

After finally being able to watch the episode, I must say that this episode was one of my favorites. Jane continued her selfless streak and urged Kate and Ben to follow their dreams or man! Oh and she finally went on her date, and seriously no date with Nick could ever compare with that date!

Grey is out of town, so Eli and Jane have all the time in the world to finally go on that date! He booked a table in some fancy restaurant and urges her to wear something fancy as well. Luckily for Jane, she has been working on her perfect dress since he told her he wanted to go on a real date. She brought it to school, while she was working on some costumes for the play. Unfortunately, Kate snatched that dress and gave it to Zoë as her cinderella-costume and altered the dress.

Things went from bad to worse for Jane when Billy told her she was not a girl but just “Jane.” Then she bolted! Billy was the worst this episode. He was rude towards Jane and Zoë, just because he had some trusting issues. Maybe Billy is the colossal waste of time and not Zoë. Anyway I’m sure Billy will get back to his enjoyable way when he gets over his trust issues.

At the Ben and Rita front, everything looked up until Ben decided to follow his dreams and play baseball. At first, he was hesitant because of Jane. But since the arrival of Kate, Ben actually wanted to follow his dreams and Jane didn’t have the heart to tell Ben that Kate was leaving too. That’s right, Kate really wanted to marry Dakota but wanted to stay for Jane. (That was before Ben left.) So Jane let Kate leave, but urged her to keep in touch. So Jane is all alone now; this has to be the best moment for any teen. She earns her money at Donovan Decker, she doesn’t have any supervision, and she is just free to do whatever she likes!

A large part of the episode was dedicated to Jane and Eli’s first date, which was kind of a disaster. She took the backup dress of Nina Garcia and went to the same restaurant as Nina. When Jane was trying to escape the restaurant, she bumped into a waiter who spilled red wine on Nina’s dress. So she had to give the backup dress to Nina and walk around in a tablecloth. Eli was the perfect gentlemen during their whole date and even confessed that this disaster date was the best date he ever went on. The whole Jane and Eli situation is kind of cute, plus Billy doesn’t deserve Jane right now. But since the season is almost over, I doubt the writers will go there. At the very least, I don’t want a relationship between them!
