It’s always a shame when a contestant doesn’t live up to your expectations, you know! I think anyone who rooted for Mario can share this sentiment with me. He had this huge amount of potential, which he effed up by his bad behaviour. It’s fair to say that this exit was deserved, and if we’re being honest also wanted by most of the viewers. Nonetheless, this was a very exiting episode, just because they changed things a little.
It was adaptability, you guys! Some of them did adapt, some of them didn’t and Charlie adapted too much. Charlie is a difficult contestant to place. I think this could go either way for him. He has a huge chance to win this thing or to be the next one to leave.
Anyway adaptability! This time the contestants didn’t get to choose which lines they would sing in front of Robert and the guest star. I actually chuckled out loud when Lilly said she wasn’t comfortable with that. If you’re on Glee, these things are bound to happen. A lot! Their guest star this week was Kevin McHale, the adapt-king on Glee. Ali pointed out that Kevin never cheats with his wheelchair and that comes from a girl in a wheelchair! At the last-minute the mentors changed the routine and made every contestant sing the entire song alone, without rehearsing it. Aylin did an amazing job and won the assignment!
Because it was adaptability week, they couldn’t know what song they were going to sing. They would hear it the first time in the recording studio and they would rehearse their steps during video takes. This is kinda hard stuff, right? Jumping into a recording studio without even knowing what song they expect out of you! This was an exiting change for them and for us!
When Nikki revealed their song choice, Blake wasn’t too happy with Jessie J’s “Price Tag” and you could already sense some trouble ahead for the star of this competition. Everybody did fairly well in the recording studio, except Abraham and Ali. Charlie was doing some weird stuff during the music video. He explained it as creating a persona and sticking to that persona the entire time. It was actually really weird! Mario struggled with his acting and didn’t know what to do the whole time and Blake couldn’t do the steps on short notice, he was over thinking the steps and it showed in his face. I wasn’t too impressed with the music video, it was a serious downgrade from last week. I don’t know if you noticed this, but there was a fault in the video; at one point Blake removes his shirt and dances in his white t-shirt, but after a minute you can see Blake dancing in his blue shirt again! Those tiny faults!
This week there wasn’t a bottom 3, but a bottom 6! Yes, only four of them were saved instantly. The rest had to do duets with each other. Ryan would then choose the worst of them and choose between those three!
Blake and Nellie were paired up and got to sing a Foreigner song. This was so good! Was it just me or was Zach actually crying? They sure gave it their all and it was a solid performance! A less solid performance was the duet between Abraham and Ali, Ali overpowered Abraham and it just was a sloppy performance. But hey, it was also a crappy song! (“Last Friday Night” is probably the worst song ever made!) Lastly, it was Charlie and Mario’s time to shine. This was a good rendition of the Elton John song, but even that couldn’t save them from the bottom three. Ryan saved Blake, Nellie, and Ali!
At one point, I thought Abraham could possibly be the one to go home. His performance was the weakest, and since Ryan adores Charlie! Ryan also only sees these performances, I don’t think he watches their music videos. Ryan is a busy man, you know! Anyway, after several bottom three performances, Mario was the one to go home. I think this exit was the most deserved exit so far!

I feel you. Mario started out as one of my favorites (I root for the contestants with the coolest backstories) but then he turned out to be a total douchebag!
