Hey, are you someone who loves the live Buffy rewatching and hates me for discontinuing it past next week? Well you’re in luck! Because the community wants to keep it going — and I’ve got a couple of schedule choices for us to vote on. And to top it off, Angel will be added to the mix.

Happy rewatching! Oh, and I guess if you guys are going to do TWO series, a new hashtag is in order? This could get confusing.

there should still be a rewatch special event to watch for "once more with feeling."
What do you propose we do to make OMWF a special event? My interest is piqued. Also,
if Michael (and any other first timers) doesn't know what OMFW is about, we must all make a special effort to keep details away from him.
Voting for the first one. ITs a reasonable amount of episodes and the schedule does not go against any possible cross-over episodes as far as I remember in timeline
Has no-one suggested that we continue going on until the end of series 7? We can't stop at "Restless" .... :(
I'm going to spare you the sarcastic rant and say yes, everyone has obviously thought of that, but, as the schedules have had a history of adjusting over time, it's best to take things one step at a time. Assuming the rewatch continues with strength, which it may or may not, Season 5 of Buffy and Season 2 of Angel will be scheduled as we approach that point, and then so on.
I guess given what I know some of the episodes are crossovers so to me it would make more sense to watch the crossovers the same day back to back in order to get the full effect. For example Pangs and I Will Remember You kind have to watch together.
Hence why the first schedule fits better so far:
Harsh Light of Day happens before In The Dark.
Pangs before I will Remember You.
Yoko Factor After Sanctuary and Sanctuary after This Year's Girl./Who are You.
So the first schedule loosely fits more in terms of continuity of both shows.
my problem with is Michael will have watched two more episode that come after those episode before viewing the Angel episodes that goes with the first one. You have to watch them together because is anything those are two hour episodes as oppose to being separate. Particularly I Will Remember You needs to be seen before Something Blue.
Seriously the best thing to do would have been to juggle certain episodes the way they are supposed to be aired(BTVS 4x01 > ATS 1x01 > ATS 1x02 > BTVS 4x02 > BTVS 4x03 > ATS 4x03 and so on, there's a very good watching order at https://buffyfest.blogspot.com/2009/04/buffyangel-episode-watching-guide.html for that although most of that place is spoiler-heavy) , but the first schedule is next best thing as it still achieves the similar kind of result, with minimal kind of setbacks(like seeing Fear,Itself before In The Dark, even though the events of Fear Itself happen AFTER In The Dark)
If you think people are going to be down for alternating between Buffy and Angel every episode... well, you'd be incorrect. It'd be a major inconvenience, especially for people watching on DVDs. There's no way people are going to agree to do that. The "crossovers" aren't full-on plot crossovers (like, say, when there used to be a single investigation started on Homicide: Life on the Street and finished on Law and Order, which immediately followed), so they don't need to be watched consecutively to make sense.
most of episodes ARE direct crossovers that follow a set timeline (Sanctuary, Five By Five, This Years Girl, Who are you And Yoko Factor, for example). I am obviously not talking from convenience point of view (even if that list does have the minimal kind of disc switching only when its necessary story-wise), but like it or not that is an optimal way to understand the story.
The story in other parts might not be connected directly, but is mostly connected thematically(for example the first 5 episodes of BTVS S6 and first five episodes of BTVS S3) so either the viewer himself sorts it out in his head on what happens after what, or a lot of value is lost.
Its incorrect to threat ATS and BTVS as "separate" shows. Its one show. Taking place in two different locations with two different sets of characters. But its one verse, with the shows being two sides of the same coin.
So excuse me for valuing viewing coherence over viewing convenience.
That said yes, I do realize the obvious that people won't be switching around the shows every episode even if it is the most optimal way to do it, hence why I voted for the first schedule, no need to attack me for that.
It's okay because I'm probably not going to watch Angel and will probably not keep up with the schedule. The semester is starting so I'm going to have to continue w/ Buffy at my own pace :)
In Whedon related news. Marvel announced Joss Whedon will direct and write Avengers 2. He will also be developing a live action series on ABC (thank god it not Fox) for Marvel Studios. Get excited Whedonites.
