OK, these writers seriously need to read my reviews before proceeding any further. Another Britney episode? I’ll excuse it with minimal eye-rolling because I liked the direction they’re going with Brittany’s character, but I feel like the ‘best of Britney’ was already done in Season 2, and they should do a tribute episode on someone else. However, I’m glad that they added more depth to Miss S. Pierce, as she typically gets lost in the shuffle until comedic relief is needed. I expected Kitty to play more of an active role in her downfall though, since we see so much of her in ‘Hold It Against Me,’ but then she goes after Marley’s man. I guess she’s just an all-around conniving b-word.
What do you guys think of Marley and Jake? Personally, I prefer Sam and Marley, since Sam’s been cheated on, led on, and left for dead in Lima, but Ryan Murphy has hinted that they won’t become more than friends this season. I just don’t like Jake very much, especially when he tries so hard to be tough. A real rebel wouldn’t let Kitty keep him from getting with what he really wants, whether that’s a relationship with Marley or just random play with every girl in school. And the Razor scooter? If you’re so desperate for attention, pick a less childish vehicle to ride through the halls, perhaps a skateboard, BMX bike, or anything with a motor. I hated how he came into Glee club and looked at everyone like they were losers (Is sniffing your hair a weirdo thing, because I do that), when he’s a big, fat dork himself.
Let’s talk about Sam some more, because I could not stop thinking about him yesterday. Since when is he this dumb? Yes, boys (and girls) his age misspell a lot of homonyms, but I don’t buy the map in his pocket as a backup compass. So in season two, he believed that Quinn saved Finn from choking on a gumball until Santana made it clear that they made out, but he was simply a fool in love back then and only wanted to hold onto her for as long as he could. Then there’s the whole White Chocolate story, which would have been illegal, depending on how far he actually stripped down, but his family was desperate for cash too. I think his new friendship with Brittany is cute, and would get totally weird if they hooked up because they both have history with Santana, but it looks like that’s going to get shot in the face when he and Blaine run against her for class president next week. Assuming they do last, what would their couple/friendship nickname be? Brevans?
I still can’t stand most of the New York plot lines. Once again, Blaine goes without mention between Rachel and Kurt, yet there’s no doubt that we’ll randomly cut to their relationship drama in a future episode. I didn’t expect Rachel and Cassie to ever relate to one another or start to become friends, but it looks like that’s the direction in which their heading. I thought Rachel sounded like a whiny baby in this episode, and Cassie, of course, is way too full of herself, but I might start rooting for their relationship if they stop using the word ‘ingénue’ in their scenes together. While I loved Finchel in seasons past and I think it’s healthy that Rachel get over him or at least put him on the back burner, I still don’t see Brody as a viable alternative. I did like when he told Rachel that he’d always be ‘thinking about kissing’ her, but the orchids were too forward. Of course it’s a sexy flower, they look like little vajayjays!
The music this week wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I’ve never liked ‘Hold It Against Me,’ and after watching this number I will never let any of my future daughters join cheerleading. I liked the ‘Boys/Boyfriend’ mash-up, though I would have rather seen Sam in place of either Blaine or Artie. Hello, full blonde Bieber! Womanizer was OK, but does the school actually let Wade/Unique into the girls’ gym class? I get it, it’s just a dance number, but still. I liked the ‘3’ number, aka Devil’s Threesome, better than the original, but Ryan Murphy explicitly said last year on The Glee Project that he wanted to write a ‘real Christian’ character. Samuel Larsen sounded great in the number, but I think they could have saved his character (no pun intended) and slipped in a rib at Nellie Veitenheimer if they had Joe say that he thought the song was literally about counting. On last season of The Glee Project, Veitenheimer thought that Kelis’ ‘Milkshake’ was actually written in celebration of the smooth, creamy drink. I thought they did well to celebrate Britney’s more classic hits with the ‘Crazy/Crazy’ mash-up and ‘Oops…I Did It Again,’ but I would have traded ‘Gimme More’ for ‘Radar’ and ‘Everytime’ for ‘From the Bottom of My Broken Heart.’

"they look like vajayjays" LOL. i stopped watching glee two years ago, but i'm really enjoying your reviews!
Haha thanks! It's nice to have some haters in here who love to have a laugh with me :)
Uhhh, Glee, "You drive me crazy"! I did not like this episode. AT. ALL. I actually don't know why people back in s2 called the Brittany/Britmey episode I bad one, cos I enjoyed it so much, I laughed when Brittany thought that Dr.Pepper was a dentist and at least the songs fitted the story AND Heather Morris was awesome in that episode....but this time around I really felt like taking an umbrella and hitting everyone, especially the writers for, one AGAIN, taking away that little faith I have in Glee every episode.
First of all, the selection of Britney songs was terrible, I was a fan of Britney songs BEFORE her downward spiral but they even managed to F that up:
- You drive me crazy - really? Marley knows Jake for 2 episodes now and he ALREADY drives her crazy? The only thing that sort of saved that song was a mash-up (God, how I loved that s1 episode)
- Everytime - aaaaaa, why was Marley singing this song? Yes, she was hurt that Jake is dating Kitty (thank you Glee, now I hated them more), but come on, its not like its the end of the world when you have a guy like Sam in your life.
- 3, Hold it Against Me, Gimme More and etc. - hated those songs when they came out, hated how they sounded on Glee and the fact that they did not make ANY sense in terms of the story line at all.
I think I only enjoyed "Boys" because Blaine and Artie made it look cool and funny. And I am sorry, but Rachel's "Oops I did it again", was NOT SEXY AT ALL. The dancers in that number were SEXY, the shower dude was SEXY, Rachel's body was SEXY, but Rachel in the dancing and singing part was not sexy at all. Look at episode like "Power of Madonna", when the girls did "Express Yourself"- that was SEXY! And so was Rachel.
Other thoughts on this episode:
1. I don't know why the show is trying to shove Rachel and the shower dude down my throat..whatever they have going on between them is whatever because what Rachel has with Finn AND what Rachel had with Jesse was a million times more intriguing. Btw, wasn't there a part in s3 last year when Jesse was told he could apply again for NYADA or was I just so glad to see him again, I spaced out? Because if you ask me, having Jesse in NY with Rachel, while Finn is MIA, would be such an awesome sl, simply because Finchel were amazing in high school, but Jesse was the guy for her if terms of Broadway life. If not that, the chemistry between those two was incredible.
2. Sam and Brittany confused me as much as anything else happening in that episode, like Jake and Kitty (haha, nice try Glee, but no, Quinn and Puck 2.0 ain't happening), Brittany's weird outfits and the fact that Kurt is applying for Vogue....I just don;t know how to explain all that.
Thank you! I totally agree about Sam and Marley, though do they say what grade she's in? It might be super weird if she's a freshman and he's a senior, but sophomore-senior wouldn't be as creepy. Maybe they're trying to keep him and Mercedes together, but they need to show it already!!!
And I'm so glad I'm not the only one who hates Brody! I think they definitely could have used Jesse in NY, but maybe Jonathan Groff turned it down if he's busy with Broadway stuff. Maybe I'm just stupid, but was the NY Dominos thing supposed to be a joke? I have a hard time believing that anyone would go there and order pizza from a national chain...
I'm glad that I completely detached from the show this season, is way more enjoyable if you don't care about anything that's happening. Though I wish Sam or Unique were the new Rachel instead of Marley, because they are my new favorites.
And Tina is just as much of a ghost as she's always been, I was hoping for more of her. I was glad to see Brad again because last week I was almost scared that he dissappeared.
Totally agree that detachment is the way to go. I still care about Brittana but now I just go into every episode with low expectations and a strong drink. So, yeah, I really enjoyed the episode.
I still think Nellie should be on Glee. She would be much more intriguing than Joe,Kitty,Marley,Jake and Unique put together.
This was not a very good episode.Boys/Boyfriend was a great performance.I also liked Oops I did it again. It was great that they changed it a a bit different from the original.Womanizer was ok and the harmonies in 3 were great. The rest of the songs were somewhere between boring, forgettable and horrible.
Great blog by the way.
