NoWhiteNoise’s first tournament: TV’s best whisper-talkers

Are you ready? Because it’s time for NoWhiteNoise’s first ever tournament! And for our first tourney, we’ve decided to pick a very burning issue plaguing the television landscape today: Whisper-Talkers! That is, characters that whisper way too much whilst talking, either because they’re just really low, they have that natural raspiness, or their huge on stressing without vocal cord vibration. That doesn’t mean we don’t love them, however; in fact, that’s what this tourney’s all about. We’ve gathered sixteen of TV’s whisper-talkers, some past, most present (and we may have missed a few) and your job is to choose which whisper-talker you love the most (for whatever reason; we’re not picky!).

In our first round of 16, we’ve got the Upper East Side’s playboy Chuck Bass versus everyone’s favorite Hamptons resident Emily Thorne. Picked to go head to head because of their iconic wit, Chuck Bass and Emily Thorne take reigns in their New York cities, calling the shots and scheming up something awful (but always awesome to watch onscreen). Whether we’re enjoying their plotting or their intense monologues, one things for sure: they’re definitely whisper-talkers. Especially Emily’s holy moral narration at the end of every episode. So who is it that you like more from our scheming UESers? Will it be Chuck or will it be Emily/Amanda? Now’s the time to decide, below:

Every couple of days we’ll be moving on to the next rounds, which include Chuck‘s John Casey versus 30 Rock‘s Jack Donaghy; Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s Angel against The Secret Circle‘s Adam; and many more. Just click on the tourney bracket above to zoom in on it and see all of the rounds!

  • I really think it will be down to the original whisperer, Angel (David doesn't actually whisper as Booth), The Mother of all Chuckers (personally the purpose of his whisper is it suppose to be dirty) and Kiefer.
I surprise Stefan didn't make it, Ryan Seacrest pointed out back before Klaus made an appearance he is whisperer too. I don't really see Elena as a whisper voice, it more whiny than drolling that you zone on it than rather you need to turn the volume up. I also never considered Brooke Davis as one either, she was actually loud and talked really fast but I get the impression because it bit on the raspy side one may confuse that as whisper but I still need to catch up with the last few seasons.

    • EVERYONE from TVD came up when we were choosing. Ultimately, I just decided on choosing one male and one female (plus we needed more females on the bracket). But I seriously feel like Elena whisper-talks. She's always whispering (well, that's my memory of her). Look at this clip of her telling Stefan she kissed Damon: I can't hear a word they're saying! https://youtu.be/5rBEB3VQESI

      • I assume that what you were doing. Yeah, I kind of zone out as they were discussing dumb triangle stuff and that seem out of place considering Bonnie just been kidnapped. Nina Dobrev has a voice that really not the best voice to listen to kind of like Blake Lively for me. These chicks can only be taken in small doses and definitely need video (saw Savages, Blake Lively should never do voice overs).

  • I recently re-watched Battlestar Galactic and Bill Adama is TOTALLY a whisperer. Like everything he says except loud speeches.
