How I Met Your Mother recap: One couple down, two to go

HIMYM didn’t waste anything this week with the drama and break – ups that are going to happen over the next few weeks. Future Ted announces that he is going to skip over all the summer shenanigans because everyone was happy, in love making for some boring stories. Instead he is going to talk about events that happened during the month of October, which he deems as “break –up month” where every relationship will end, minus Lily and Marshall’s of course.

The episode then goes into the major issue that affects each couple, which is Barney deciding to get a pre-nup, which is not the average pre-nup. But rather a contract with all the way he wants his marriage to Quinn to be like, which doesn’t go over well with Quinn. His insane idea for a pre-nup features things like; her to pay every time she gains a pound and to add a couple more wives to the marriage. This leads to many disagreements between the two, who take it to the group, with the girls siding with the Quinn and the boys siding with the Barney. Of course these discussions lead to late night talks in bed, about ways that both the women and men could change in order to make their partner happier. Unfortunately, nothing good comes from this for the couples, but in terms of comedy, which I got to say was pretty funny stuff to watch. From Robin getting turned on by watching herself on TV to Klaus living with Ted and Victoria, running around naked all the time. These two stories actually had me laughing out loud, something that doesn’t happen too often.

The girls then discuses their nights, leading Quinn to come up with the idea to make her own pre-nup, for Barney to sign, which is pretty much as ridiculous as the one he wanted her to sign, to which I have to give her kudos for. As the girls and the boys begin to argue about each other’s annoyances, Artillery Arthur makes an insightful proclamation (for once and kind of out of character) that they should cherish their loved ones and talk through their issues. This goes into a really sweet moment, where they talk about their problems and are able to get through it. Well Robin’s was kind of strange and created another funny moment, but her love interest (who’s name I’m not going to bother remembering, cause he’ll be gone soon) reacts in a good way rather then the way you think, which I guess was good. Since I was expecting this couple to be the first to break up, I was dumbfounded to who it would be, especially since I like the other two couples better. Everyone leaves and Barney and Quinn are left to figure out what to do about the whole pre-nup situation, and they ultimately realize that getting married shouldn’t be so difficult and they don’t trust each other. This was a really sad moment, and rushed a little, I felt, but I like that it was done in a honest way and was true to the characters and the story. I was actually quite sad that Quinn is gone now, because I really grew to like her character and I’ll definitely miss her. Also, it’s hard to believe that Barney would get over Quinn so quickly, but I guess its just Barney being Barney.

Once the whole Quinn-Barney relationship ends we flash back to the bar, where Ted, Marshall and Barney are talking, in which he proclaims the single life will be “legend, wait for it…”

“…Dary”, “Legendary” flashing forwarded to  the future where Barney is telling the guys how legendary his wedding (to Robin) will be and that he doesn’t need a pre-nup. Here we see the happy couple, just being that a happy couple. I really loved this scene, and am anxiously awaiting them to get a little ways down the road.

  • I didn't like this episode, I felt like it was one of those where HIMYM decides to do a parody on itself...and not a funny one at that. The whole pre-nup idea was just not funny, I did not laugh once, it was just ridiculous. Also I felt, even though we know Robin and Barney get married, the broke up Barney and Quinn way too quickly and for a stupid reason because if the whole issue was about trust, then they should have dealt with it last season, when these two decided to have a relationship. Also, I never believed in Barney and Robin, because to me Barney will always be a player and Robin will always be career first, everything else later. Barney and Quinn though were good together because they were equals. So big boo there!

But nothing was worse than that Dr. Phil themed thing of Arthur telling everyone to work out their issues, knowing that this guy never gave a crap about anyone or anything than his dog, I was like WHY?!!!!! MAKE IT STOP!

Also, I want to see more Lily and Marshall with the baby, and how they are going through being parents, I feel like in the past two episodes, I have barely seen them.

So like I said, I didn't like this episode, at all. The only thing that was funny and at that for only 2 seconds was the ringtone Arthur had for his wife when she called.

    • the only person that get smiles from me these days is Marshall really!
I completly agree with you. I thought to myself, why bother making so many episodes with barney & Quinn, make us all like her, just to break them up for such a stupid reason and so fast! How do you propose to a girl, then break up because suddenly you realize you don't trust each other and oh,he's not even upset about it! Bullshit! Season 7 was crap, 8X01 was nice, but still i don't even get excited anymore about this show!
