Tomorrow is December 21st, 2012, which means that the end of the world is inevitably upon us. And while you may be doing other things during the apocalypse — like, say, running away from fire and brimstone crying out for help — there’s always the possibility that you’d like to spend your final moments on this planet in peace, watching a little television, to boot. But what will you be watching while the rest of the the world crumbles into a fiery hell? Let’s discuss your options.
The Fitting Choice: The News | Well if it’s the end of the world, as it’s supposed to be, there’s a very high chance that you’ll flip on the television and every channel will have some sort of broadcast about how the world is ending. The news works in a weird way like that. So as the foundation around your house is crumbling away, you can watch foundations all around the world doing the exact same thing. SO META.
The Survival Guide Choice: The Walking Dead | Perhaps you’re not so laid back about the idea that everyone is going to die, and perhaps the way we all go isn’t a predictable inferno. Perhaps the way we go is a virus that makes everyone zombies! And because that actually might happen, it’s only right that you decide to flip on a little bit of AMC’s amazing The Walking Dead — if only to get some pointers on how to survive the post-apocalyptic world. How else can we expect you to know how to slice off zombie heads and intrude on someone else’s land and just command them that you live there now? This works for other shows, too. See Revolution, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, et al. Who knows, we might die from vampires or demons, too.
The LALALA THIS ISN’T HAPPENING Choice: PBS Cartoons | This is also called the In Denial Choice. There aren’t many shows on television that are completely innocent, save for Saturday morning-type cartoons. That’s why if you’re in denial that the apocalypse is currently taking place and you need a universe in which to feel safe, you can just plop in front of any PBS kids show and imagine you’re a cartoon and nothing can hurt you. Make sure to let go of that sign that reads “Sucker” on it, though.
The There’s Got to Be a Way Out of This Choice: Fringe | This doesn’t really work with season five, but if you want to imagine that there’s a way out of this: there isn’t, except for going into a parallel universe in which the apocalypse never takes place. That’s why you should be watching Fringe so that you can delude your simple mind that there is such a possibility.
The Psh, Is this it? Choice: 2012 | Let’s say the apocalypse is taking place, but you’re feeling quite underwhelmed about it. I mean, you were expecting death! fire! havoc! And all you got was a little pain… or maybe no apocalypse at all. That’s got to be so disappointing for you. Sure it’s not TV, but why not watch a film where they get the apocalypse right? Watch the destruction of the world without the world actually having to end.
The Aw crap, the title fooled me Choice: Apocalypse Now | If you want feel gipped because you were planning to watch a film with destruction of the world but instead got something about the Vietnam war, this is your choice.
The At Least the Apocalypse Isn’t as Bad as This Choice: Keeping Up With the Kardashians | The apocalypse is bad, but at least it’s not as awful as you watching this reality series right?
Now that you’ve got some options, it’s time to decide what you’ll be watching once the world begins and plan accordingly. Hurry up! You’ve only got a few hours left!
