Preachers’ Daughters recap: Dating sure is hard

As I mentioned here on Reality Check last week, you really should be watching Preachers’ Daughters on Lifetime. Everyone who has ever known a preacher’s kid knows that they rebel better than anyone else on the planet when they hit those tumultuous teenage years.  And these three girls represent the three levels of teenage-dom.  Kolby is just starting to test the waters of rebellion while still being her parents’ perfect child, Taylor is in full on party mode, and Olivia got into major trouble and is already trying to reform her ways.  Clearly, Taylor is most fascinating, but all these girls have their entertaining moments and you should all be tuning in. On to the breakdown of the stories this week!

Kolby

This week Kolby and her sisters are trying to get her parents back together, so her storyline starts off with her dad stopping over unexpectedly to take her mom out for a date. Because the only thing that could be worse than having two parents as preachers is having those two parents united together under one roof. Over dinner, the parents discuss how their relationship fell apart when Nikita (the dad) was saved. But it WASN’T JESUS’S FAULT!! It was their own fault, Jesus didn’t ruin things.  The mom makes sure to make that crystal clear.  We wouldn’t want to blame Jesus.  Although things get tense for minute, both parents agree to work together and put the past in the past.  Who knows, maybe love will blossom one day in the future? Even the mom quotes JBiebs and says ‘never say never’ because the Lord works in mysterious ways!

This breakthrough allows Kolby and her mom to have a heart-to-heart that makes Kolby realize that she doesn’t have to be afraid of dating. So when  she runs into her ex Micah while getting FroYo with her friend she realizes that she HAS to talk to him.  She interrupts his man-date to let him know that she actually DOES want to date him, after shattering his adorable little heart just last week.  Micah admits that he has missed her a lot since their break up and it is one of the cutest moments you will ever see.  It melted my cold black heart just a bit.  I have to admit, I’m starting to ship these two crazy kids.

Olivia

Olivia’s storyline of course revolved to her past ‘partying.’ Honestly that word is thrown around SO much in her family, probably in almost every sentence.  Can we please find out exactly what they mean by that? Drugs? Sex? Alcohol? Dancing? And while you’re at it, can someone get these people a thesaurus? There has to be another word/phrase they can use. Anyway, Olivia’s friend from her ‘partying’ days, Frankie, comes over for dinner so her parents could grill him and see if he is a solid potential suitor who will respect her purity ring. Over the dinner her dad asks Frankie and Olivia to define what ‘partying’ meant in their situation. FINALLY! An explanation! Even though the whole dinner is a bit awkward (as dinner with parents always is), Frankie seems to have passed the test…for now. But will he pull Olivia back down the dark road to partying?  Unfortunately we will never get to know, since Frankie actually has had a secret girlfriend this whole time! Shady, shady Frankie!

Taylor

Naughty little Taylor is still talking to her boo Demotious ‘on the sly’ and this class act guy wants her to pose as the model for his upcoming rap CD.  This could be her in to her dream life as a porn star!! She sneaks out of her house will her parents are gone and heads over to the photo shoot.  This is a real professional photo shoot taken under a bridge and shot on iPhones.  Clearly Demotious is on his way to the big time.  Unfortunately while Taylor is striking her poses her mom is blowing up her phone asking her to pray since her dad is in the hospital.  For some reason Taylor waits until she gets home and changes her outfit before checking her voicemail. Because that’s what teenagers trying to be ‘on the sly’ do when they see multiple missed calls and voicemails from their already suspicious parents. She is clearly upset when she finds out about her dad and rushes down to the hospital to see him.  After she visits her dad , Taylor starts feeling guilty because of all the stress she has been causing him.  Is this a wake up call for her?  I hope not. She is our resident trouble maker! If she goes on the straight and narrow none of these girls are going to be very interesting until things start to get really hot and heavy with Kolby and Micah.

Next week Kolby and Olivia clashes with her parents over Halloween and Taylor’s dad comes home from the hospital. Tune in with me.  You won’t regret it!
