Being on call for work nearly 24/7 gives me a pretty good built in bail out line of "Ohh, work called, I need to go in, so sorry" if I need it, although it's been a long time since a date went so bad I needed one. I did have one date respond with a request to come with me to see where I work, yikes!
My bail out line would be to play sick and say "the food at dinner made my stomach hurt." Make it clear that you're feeling ill and you need go home. I think this approach would put the ball in your court since no one would question someone not feeling well. It also lets your date down easy without hurting their feelings.
I always have a friend ready to bail me out by calling after the first 30 minutes of the first date. And in case things go really wrong she would tell me a story how my apartment just got flooded and I need to run home immediately. But if my date offers to go with me and help fixing the leak, well then I guess he deserves a second chance after all.
Mine would be to have a friend call and say they need a favor. That way it's not like YOU are bailing on them.
My best line is. Omg. I have to go...I think I may have left my stove on. I need to run home!
i've never had to use one, but setting a fake call of an persona emergancy seems to work
I'd go with a 'text' from my babysitter about an emergency with my toddler at home. Both the emergency and the toddler are untrue. This works especially well, because not only do I obviously need to leave ASAP, but it can go the extra mile in making them less interested by them being blindsided with the thought that I have young kids.
Best Bailout line would to have a friend call you while you are on the date and for them to pretend that you have a family emergency that you need to be quickly excused for.
I'd say "ohhh man one of my migraines is coming on (since I do get them) I'm so sorry but I have to nip this in the bud"
Once I bailed out by first texting my cousin (without my date noticing), telling him to tell my mom to call me. Then she would call, asking me whats up. The great thing was that we spoke in a different language. So I just explained to my mom the situation in cantonese and then by the end of the phone call, I told my date theres an emergency at home. He was oblivious to it all, I hope. I owe my mom one. I felt bad leaving but my date was starting to get creepy.
