The Top 5 Christian Grey’s That Weren’t

Now that we’ve had time to mourn the loss of one Christian Grey and equal time to embrace a new one we can all sit back, relax, and enjoy the view. The coveted role in the Fifty Shades of Grey book-to-movie adaptation by E.L. James now rests in the hands of Sheriff Graham Humbert (played by Jamie Dornan) of the ABC series Once Upon A Time. One thing’s for sure, this smokin’ hot actor (who happens to come equipped with a delectable Irish accent) is one lucky guy! But what about all the other heartthrobs who didn’t make the cut? Do we deprive ourselves from their manly goodness? I think not! So this is for you, despite being our runners up we still think you’re pretty damn fine.

1. Matt Bomer

Matt was a BIG favorite amongst the fans to land the role of S&M master, Christian Grey and we can definitely see why. This wholesome Texas boy decided to move to NY after college. He worked on such acclaimed stage productions as Spring Awakening (directed by Michael Mayer) and Grey Gardens (directed by Michael Grief.) Well, Matt, you can definitely Spring awaken in my grey garden (did I actually just type that? Sorry, as many women before me, I’ve fallen victim to those baby blues.) Let’s not forget that this hunk of man candy currently stars as Neal Caffrey in USA Network’s original series White Collar.

Fun fact: Modeled as one of the main characters (Jason Carrillo) for the photographic cover art of the young adult novel The Rainbow Boys by Alex Sanchez.

2. Chris Hemsworth

Look at him… need I say more? I know that’s not a good enough reason for many, but it’s pretty obvious why he’s on my list. Chris is best known for his leading role in the Marvel Studios film Thor (2011.) I don’t think I have ever seen a red cape look that sexy (cue mouth drool). Chris is also known for The Avengers (2012), and the upcoming 2013 film Thor: The Dark World. Oh and did we mention he has an accent? That’s definitely the cherry on top of my New Zealand man cake!

Fun Fact: Lists his secret TV addiction as Degrassi Junior High. Really Chris? Not even the original Degrassi?

3. Matt Raimo

This unknown model/actor practically SCREAMS Christian Grey… with those chiseled abs and the “I want you in my bed” stare. Oh and the fact that he’s flying under the radar… at least for now, is a definite plus! A new face for this role would’ve been perfect! In fact, I was hoping for it! Matt comes to us from the exotic land of Long Island. He played professional baseball in the minor leagues in the Dominican Republic for two years as a starting pitcher (I mean those arms speak for themselves). You can catch Matt on episode 7 of the hit CBS show Blue Bloods and he is currently signed with FORD Models. He was recently spotted on the beach wearing…. (see above picture) … What we wouldn’t give to be that rock.

Fun fact: He was once mistaken for Christian Grey at a Moes in Penn Station by a 65-year-old woman.

4. Ian Somerhalder

Does this sexy Vampire (not a real one, he just plays one on TV) need any introduction? Well, maybe if you know, you’re living under a rock… this talented hottie was an obvious choice for world-wide heartthrob, Christian Grey. Ian is best known for his role as Boone Carlyle in the hit TV show Lost and of course, every woman (and sometimes men) want him to suck on our necks as Damon Salvatore in the hit CW series The Vampire Diaries (raise your hand if you’re happy he’s now single, sorry Nina.) However, it’s not just his mouth-watering eyes or his in your face sex appeal that make us melt it’s also his involvement in charity work. He is the Co-founder of The Ian Somerhalder Foundation, which helps to educate people on the importance of protecting the environment and animals. You can come snuggle up to me, Ian!

Fun Fact: Can write you a love letter in cursive with his toes.

5. Paul Wesley

Clearly you’re seeing a pattern here… I have a soft spot for brooding vamps. But in all seriousness, you can’t sit there and tell me he’s not one of the sexiest men alive! His jaw line. His glaring gaze. I’d like to believe he is deep in thought about handcuffs and a good spanking. This stud hails from a faraway land known as New Jersey. He started acting in high school and landed a role on a Soap Opera called Guiding Light, but he’s known to many others as the emotional, and self-loathing vampire Stefan Salavatore on the hit CW show, The Vampire Diaries. Is it too late for E.L. James to make Fifty Shades of Grey’s main character a blood thirsty vampire?

Fun Fact: His first kiss was when he was nine years old and in a swimming pool with a girl that dared him into kissing her. Well Paul, I triple dog dare you!

  • As far as I am aware the "The Kids of Degrassi Street" doesn't get much airplay like Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High and TKoDS ended when Chris was only 3. Overall I'm happy none of my hot faves went near this role, the books suck so I don't expect much and if I really want to watch S&M love story, Secretary with James Spader suits me just fine.

    • Well cacherr1 as far as I am aware it sounds like you are in need of a good S&M experience yourself and we are all wondering who the hell James Spader is(I'm going to ask my grandfather right after I post this), stop thinking about 3 yr old Chris and focus your attention on the brilliantly written article before you that so effortlessly captures the talent and aesthetics of these up and coming stars.

      • First off you don't know whether I have experience S&M or not. So stfu with that and it doesn't change the fact 50 Shades is shitty S&M writing and one of the worst one to turn into a film and what is having a good S&M experience have to do with anything, most people who write that genre have never done it themselves and James admit she herself hasn't done anything. I wasn't thinking of 3 year old Chris (I'm not creepy) just pointing out he may have never seen it before due to the fact the original Degrassi is not aired like at all. I like all these up and coming (though I don't consider Ian up and coming anymore). And if you don't know who James Spader is you live under a rock, he has the highest rated new drama on television now and has been a star since the 80's (and fuck I wasn't born until '91). So unless you are 5 year old, your damn parent should know. That's funny as I'm pretty sure most people on this list would list James Spader as an inspiration.
Either way I'm happy these actors couldn't do it as the entire film sounds like shit just like its book counterpart and unless these folks need the money like Rob Patz did (and he was E.L. James preference but he said no), they shouldn't take it.

  • I am really glad Matt Bomer wasn't chose, because I wouldn't be able to watch White collar again with a straight face.

"Jamie Dornan died in a fairytale and woke up in a porn movie."
