You may be able to see Kristen Bell play the very ambitious Jeannie on Showtime’s new comedy House of Lies (my reaction, lukewarm at best) but there’s something you many not have known: the Veronica Mars star sold a project to the very same network.
In an interview Thursday with the Huffington Post, Bell states quite matter-of-factly that she wanted a new project, something different, and was itching to do television yet again. That’s when she drops the following all too casually:
“Dax [Shepard] and I had come up with a show idea that we met with Showtime about and they loved it and ended up buying it.”
Wait, what? It’s true! In fact, it was just after she sold them the project that the network ended up calling her and asking her to be a part of House of Lies. She immediately said yes.
But of her unnamed Showtime project Bell says, “It’s in development. They usually take two or three years to ever get on the air. … It might change a ton, so I’d rather not [say much] just in case it ends up changing completely. Hopefully, it will one day come to be.”
The rest of the interview consists of her new role as Jeannie in the “sophisticated filth” that is House of Lies and her obsession with Homeland. Quite a good read.
