If you listened to the radio, or walked down the street, or flipped on your television, or even went to the movies: you most likely knew that The Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle had their “midseason premiere return event!” happening yesterday January 5th at 8/7c on The CW.
Now whether those premieres actually warranted all that hype is up to you (you can read our Vampire Diaries review and Secret Circle review, respectively) — but it seems many of you voted with your remotes, anyway.
According to Marc Berman at TVMediaInsights, The Vampire Diaries returned with an average of 3.2 million total viewers and a 1.5/4 in the all-important 18-49 demographic. The Secret Circle returned with 2.06 million viewers and a 0.8/2 in the demo. These numbers are pretty much on par with what the shows were getting towards their midseason finales; however, ratings can change later in the afternoon after the finals are released.
Grey’s Anatomy returned to 12.04 million viewers and a 4.5/11 in the demo while Private Practice returned to 7.82 million viewers and a 2.8/8 in the demo. Save for Wipeout (8.54mil and 2.8/8), the rest of the night was in repeats.

IMO being even with the november finale isn't that good. Especially TSC should've risen to at least 0.9.
With all the advertising The CW did, I can't imagine they're too happy with these numbers, but they can't be upset really.
