She said: The Secret Circle 1.12 ‘Witness’ review — Who Dat in the ground? Not Blackwell

Can I just start by saying that the “previously on The Secret Circle” crap before the episode starts is really beginning to annoy me. If you are an avid watcher of the show, you know what’s going on… yes, there may be some stragglers who need to catch up—but that’s not me, so stop bombarding my television with one minute of wasted air time.

Okay, so now onto the review/recap. We left off with Cassie and Adam making out in the abandoned houses basement—classy kids, what happened to an old fashioned back seat?

Jake’s back, shocker there, and his sights are set on Cassie. This love triangle is turning into a love square. Poor Diana. She hasn’t got a chance. Honestly, Adam is really beginning to piss me off. He has no consideration for Diana whatsoever.

The way I see it, the episode was pretty uneventful… and that’s saying a lot— because I usually have no major critiques regarding the show. But, I feel like the whole Jake and Cassie going into Jake’s mind to see what really happened the night of the fire was a dud storyline. Yes, it was important for us to get a sneak peak of what really happened on the night the circle’s parents died… but, I just wasn’t into it that much. Perhaps it’s because I’m not into Cake (Cassie and Jake).

I love the storyline that is progressing with Faye—resident bad girl gets her hands on some forbidden magical drug. Although it’s very predictable, I’m hoping the writers spice it up a little bit and avoid Faye ending up in magical drug rehab. Imagine if that existed? It probably does. Phoebe Tonkin’s acting just keeps getting better and better, I throw rocks at everyone who says you can hear her Aussie accent and thinks she doesn’t deserve to be on the show. I can confidently say she is one of my favorite characters to watch.

Lee tells Faye that his ex, Eva took too much of that magical drug stuff and it really messed her up. I love how even after Faye hears about the dangers of it she still takes it from that creepy dude. Tisk, tisk.

Anyways, Adam’s clingy and jealousy act is overbearing and I’m surprised Cassie is even attracted to him. We all get the vibe that Cassie digs Jake too… God this girl gets more action than a toilet seat at Grand Central Station.

We find out that Amelia was pissed that John betrayed her… now, I doubt it’s the whole dark magic scenario so I’m going to go with the whole cheating on her and having an illegitimate child with someone else. That makes sense. God, I should write for this show.

Melissa is missing in action, no surprise there. I almost hope she’s the other Balcoin (Blackwell) child so Jessica Parker Kennedy can get some screen time! Like, seriously, why is she always out of town?

Cassie uncovering that Ethan was there the night of the fire is making me question his loyalty. We know how much he hated John Blackwell, so I could totally see him working with the witch hunters to end John’s reign for good. Plus, he had a little too much fun making Charles choke on water. P.S. Dawn Chamberlain is majorly sketchy and manipulative.

Diana and Adam are trying to be friends post breakup but it doesn’t seem to be working out that well. You can tell they miss each other, but not enough to get back together. It really breaks my heart every time Diana and Adam are in a scene together; Shelley Hennig’s delivery is sheer perfection. I get choked up just watching because you can totally relate to her character. Dear writers, get Diana laid— preferably by Faye. I mean, what?

Surprise, surprise, Blackwell is still alive. Cassie and Jake dug up her supposed dead fathers grave and found what seems to be animal remains. Oooh, spooky. Not. Totally saw that coming.

I still can’t tell if Jake is sincere or not, but I hope he doesn’t turn out to be a total d-bag who leads Cassie to her demise.

Overall the episode was good, not great. I can’t believe I have to wait two weeks for a new episode. Who’s bright idea was that? I’m sure next week I’ll be ranting and raving about how my Thursday night lacks drama, witches, and Adam’s eyeliner.

Episode Allstar: Diana Meade, for helping Cassie even though she could have let her suffocate to death. I know I would have. Kudos, Diana… Kudos.

  • I too want Melissa to be the other Blackwell child! Faye is such the obvious choice. Melissa needs more to do. And very keen observations about Adam. He is becoming tiring. And I too am surprised Cassie has an inkling of interest in him. This seems to be more of the show needing the love triangle than genuine feelings though, because he's so overbearing.

    • We haven't seen Melissa attempt magic on her own, so it is possible. Although, I've been getting this strange feeling that Diana is somehow the other Blackwell child. Perhaps I'll get into the possibilities next week in place of a review since we're on a little break. Could be fun. Of course Adam is tiring, he can't make up his mind, and the lack of chemistry between him and Cassie is laughable. Episode 13 and 14 look eventful. =)
