She Said: The Vampire Diaries 3.13 ‘Bringing Out the Dead’ review: xoxo, Damon

Hai there. I’m clearly still freaking out because of the emotional roller coaster of last night’s The Vampire Diaries, but I got it together enough to write this review. The episode, “Bringing Out the Dead,” was well worth the two week wait. To break it down slash recap…

ORIGINAL FAMILY

First off, this is the most attractive family I’ve seen since The O.C. Their genes must be amazing. It’s a shame to the entire modeling industry slash human race that they can’t have children. I really enjoyed the tale about Elijah, Klaus, and Tatia, and I sincerely hope they show flashbacks. Klaus and Elijah are two of my four favorite characters, and it’d be interesting to see why Klaus really killed his mother. Was it because she made him unknowingly drink his loves blood? And how did Elijah feel about all of this. Call me crazy, but it seems Klaus was a bit more upset at the dinner table than Elijah. But then again, maybe Elijah was just distracted because he missed scenes from his favorite soap opera (Damon-Elena-Stefan Falls) and is looking for an opening for the role of Elena’s love interest. There’s sexual tension there, I’m telling you. I’m insanely glad Rebecca is back, and Kol is so attractive how could I really mind. There’s been spoilers that Finn gets involved with Katherine, so I’d love to see how that plays out. There’s just so much to still find out about the Original family, so I have a feeling the rest of this season will be epic.

It seems that even though Klaus isn’t the youngest of the family, he has more of a mentality of being together as a family compared to the others. Klaus is one of the most dynamic characters on TVD, because he is truly an anti-villain. He does bad things, but for what is — in his eyes at least — a noble cause.

DAMON AND STEFAN AND ELENA

Back in soap opera land, I find it interesting, if not slightly heartbreaking to see where the love triangle between these three goes in the future. Like Michael said in his review, it’s contrasting how the two brothers react to Klaus’s arrangement. Besides taking to heart what Klaus said so much that he had to leave the dinner table, it seems like Damon would rather have Elena safe, living somewhere without him, and Stefan just wants her to be with him. It’s interesting. Note that Matt is being subtly pushed into the Elena love map…

I did find it a bit annoying when Klaus said that Elena was better without Stefan or Damon in her life. Let’s be honest, no matter which brother you like more, she’d be dead if it weren’t for both of them. But I do have a feeling that Damon especially may have taken this to heart, hence the spoilers for the next episode we got a couple of weeks back about another woman in bed with him. Damon might be drawing back, but Elena might be more than a bit upset about that. And as for Stefan, I’m intrigued about what he does in response to that.

WHEN CAROLINE CRIES I CRY

Internally weeping at this part, along with the rest of the TVD audience. Caroline’s dad was admittedly not my favorite, but Candice Accola is so dynamic on screen, and automatically sets the tone for an emotional scene. My heart was aching, because even though Caroline seemingly hated her dad, she was heartbroken over the fact that he would choose to die rather than become what she is. And it was amazing to finally see her dad accepting her for what she is, saying that he loves her no matter what. I hope it doesn’t affect Caro too much, because although it was a huge death for her, at least she had some kind of closure.

OTHER THINGS HAPPENED TOO

  • I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHO IS KILLING EVERYONE AND WHY ELENA’S FINGERPRINTS ARE ON THE STAKE. Does this mean Kat is back?!
  • That Elena, Matt, and Caroline scene were great. Very cinematographic.
  • Sheriff Forbes was also amazing in that scene. Liz FTW.
  • Can Kol be on my screen more?
  • Where was Tyler?
  • Damon is basically Gossip Girl.
  • I guess Bonnie’s mom does have magic. Not interested at all TBQH.
  • NEXT WEEK’S PROMO
  • A+ episode

  • LOL at the can KOL be on my screen more??? im already obsessed with him!!! hope to see more Originals in upcoming episodes!!! seriously they should just have their own spin-off!!!

    • i meant hope to see more of the Original storyline....not more Originals...since they are ALL here and theres no more to introduce!!! and i am curious about the Klaus & Caroline storyline!!

      • Yes exactly! I'm just so interested in the whole family, so I hope the show will keep them for season 4. I don't think I could survive without my weekly Klaus!
And Kol is ridiculously attractive. And he looks like Daniel Gillies a lot. A+ casting.

  • yeah...totally agree with everything... The Originals and their grand entrance... surprised you didn't mention mama Original though, she had the grandest entrance..FAMILY always comes first...

  • hey - love your review!  i always check in because this is one of my favorite review sites -- however, if you could not add spoilers to your review that would be great (or at least put a warning at the beginning).  i always like to be surprised :)

    • Sorry about the spoilers in Lizzy's post… but excuse my while I cry since you said this is one of your favorite review sites…
