Which shows do you hate that everyone else inexplicably LOVES?

I just cannot stop asking you guys questions, lately. So let me know if it seems like I’m just badgering you constantly. Deal?

So I’m assuming we’ve all been in this situation where everyone seems to love something but you just can’t wrap your head around it. That’s how I feel about coffee. Everyone loves coffee. “It’s an acquired taste!” How stupid is that? Why acquire a taste for something you don’t need?

Anyway, we’ve all got those shows that are ridiculously loved or popular that you sit through and say, “Really? This?So what are some shows you don’t like, but everyone else seems to just love? Here are a few of mine, and I’m sure you’ll think lesser of me after you finish reading this.

Lost

You. Don’t. Like. Lost!? It’s the best. show. ever. ever ever ever!” is the reaction I usually get whenever I tell someone that I don’t like Lost. My 11th grade English teacher once hit me over this. Literally.

Look, I’ve sat through the Lost pilot three times. Yes, “sat through” as in it was a chore for me to have to sit down for an hour watching it. Once was willfully. The other two times were not. I’ve also caught a couple of other episodes in syndication — and I just don’t see the appeal. And I certainly don’t think it’s the best show ever.

But I feel the same with Once Upon a Time, so I’m beginning to think that me and the creators’ storytelling just don’t jive.

Family Guy

Actually, I don’t hate Family Guy. I don’t “hate” any show, really. I don’t even dislike Family Guy. Perhaps what I mean to say is that its quality has degraded steeply this past season — and yet everyone just continues to rave on (plus the ratings are still as high as ever). The much-better American Dad! still gets bupkis and The Simpsons which has seen a creative resurgence in the last season and a half gets nothing as well.

Meanwhile, Family Guy airs the most awkward 30 minutes of my life, a domestic abuse episode, and its ratings just rise.

Phineas and Ferb

Continuing with the cartoons… I’m pretty sure Phineas and Ferb has been touted as the best cartoon show of all time by everyone and their mothers — literally, because it’s also been touted as the best family show on television currently. I’ve watched a handful of episodes and I just don’t get it.

It’s not that great for me. But I understand everyone else loves it. I just don’t know why. Personally, I think there are some better options for the entire family to watch on TV (perhaps not lately, but of all time, I mean really?)!

Dancing With the Stars

It’s not hopefuls winning a lifetime dream. It’s not for charity. It’s just has-beens dancing for three months to win a trophy. And it’s dominated so many Monday nights while others have suffered. I don’t ever wish a show to be cancelled, because that’s stupid, but I don’t get the appeal one bit.

What about you? What shows do other people just love but you can’t see their appeal at all?

  • haha.. i'm with you on LOST! I don't get why others seem to really like the show.. I think it's boring. :(

but i like Family Guy, it's funny in an adult kinda way (don't know how to express it!!) but i do find it funny, :)

    • I'm not the only one who hates Lost!!! Or rather, was just bored by it!? Yes! And I love me some Family Guy… lately… not really.

      • awwww clearly Lost wasnt meant for you, little buddy

ya have to actually be SMART to watch and appreciate it, either that or you watched it anyway and were one of those losers who said the finale SUCKED WAH WAH WAH when in reality just didnt want to admit you couldnt follow it. sorry a f'n tv show is so hard to follow, oh my how challenging! XD

you just stick with your endless awful borefests of crappy drug, pathetic mafia bosses and generic crime cop dramas. yno, the ACTUAL worst things on tv!

        youre welcome ; )

  • you hate LOST? Mike!!!! That's not at all possible! you've obviously been seating in the wrong... SEAT, or something!

  • I feel the exact same way about Family Guy. I used to really enjoy it, but now it's like... I also do adore American Dad.

I don't know about hate, but I feel like I should like The Vampire Diaries a lot more than I do. Vampires, werewolves, CW-pretty actors? Check, check, and check. Still, I always just feel a little cold towards it. Then there is the Super Bowl and sports in general...

  • I'm totally with you on Dancing With the Stars. The dancing isn't even usually quality. It is cheesy beyond all reason and I rarely care about any of the celebrities.

  • Glee. Glee is fucking stupid and I don't understand the appeal at all. So much inconsistency in characterization, plot, etc.

  • ::yeap, yeap..i am sooooo with you on LOST..the name suits it just well..i was lost after watching the 1st three epi's of season 1..and i was convincing myself that it was goooood while watching it , since all the reviews said so...other than that...er..well, i might get a kick in the ass for this..er..how i met your mother..BUT..i am going to get the 1st season ASAP, okay ?::

  • American Idol. Ugh. I cannot stand that show. Enough already. Get it off the air!! I also really don't like Survivor and I never watched Lost so I don't know if I hate it but I don't plan on watching it. Ever.

  • The bachelor/bachellorette. I dont even know why that show is still on air. The couples never make it anyway!! Ugh that show is so stupid!!!!!

  • I have tried so many times to watch Glee as everyone raves about it but it makes me cringe & feel so uncomfortable I simply can't understand how anyone puts up with it!
