I just cannot stop asking you guys questions, lately. So let me know if it seems like I’m just badgering you constantly. Deal?

So I’m assuming we’ve all been in this situation where everyone seems to love something but you just can’t wrap your head around it. That’s how I feel about coffee. Everyone loves coffee. “It’s an acquired taste!” How stupid is that? Why acquire a taste for something you don’t need?

Anyway, we’ve all got those shows that are ridiculously loved or popular that you sit through and say, “Really? This?So what are some shows you don’t like, but everyone else seems to just love? Here are a few of mine, and I’m sure you’ll think lesser of me after you finish reading this.

Lost

You. Don’t. Like. Lost!? It’s the best. show. ever. ever ever ever!” is the reaction I usually get whenever I tell someone that I don’t like Lost. My 11th grade English teacher once hit me over this. Literally.

Look, I’ve sat through the Lost pilot three times. Yes, “sat through” as in it was a chore for me to have to sit down for an hour watching it. Once was willfully. The other two times were not. I’ve also caught a couple of other episodes in syndication — and I just don’t see the appeal. And I certainly don’t think it’s the best show ever.

But I feel the same with Once Upon a Time, so I’m beginning to think that me and the creators’ storytelling just don’t jive.

Family Guy

Actually, I don’t hate Family Guy. I don’t “hate” any show, really. I don’t even dislike Family Guy. Perhaps what I mean to say is that its quality has degraded steeply this past season — and yet everyone just continues to rave on (plus the ratings are still as high as ever). The much-better American Dad! still gets bupkis and The Simpsons which has seen a creative resurgence in the last season and a half gets nothing as well.

Meanwhile, Family Guy airs the most awkward 30 minutes of my life, a domestic abuse episode, and its ratings just rise.

Phineas and Ferb

Continuing with the cartoons… I’m pretty sure Phineas and Ferb has been touted as the best cartoon show of all time by everyone and their mothers — literally, because it’s also been touted as the best family show on television currently. I’ve watched a handful of episodes and I just don’t get it.

It’s not that great for me. But I understand everyone else loves it. I just don’t know why. Personally, I think there are some better options for the entire family to watch on TV (perhaps not lately, but of all time, I mean really?)!

Dancing With the Stars

It’s not hopefuls winning a lifetime dream. It’s not for charity. It’s just has-beens dancing for three months to win a trophy. And it’s dominated so many Monday nights while others have suffered. I don’t ever wish a show to be cancelled, because that’s stupid, but I don’t get the appeal one bit.

What about you? What shows do other people just love but you can’t see their appeal at all?
