It’s finally here — Memorial Day Weekend and the huge, epic, amazing, gargantuan, flawless, humoungous, most important thing ever in the world[*] Buffy Summer(s) Rewatch of 2012!
[*] Adjectives may be exaggerated.
So, here’s the deal. Tonight at 9:30pm EDT[**] we’re all going to be watching the first four episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer back to back to back to back, beginning with “Welcome to the Hellmouth” and ending with “Teacher’s Pet.” While doing so, you are extremely encouraged to tweet your reactions using the hashtag #BuffyRewatch. Search the tag for likeminded individuals who are also watching Buffy at the same time — and let’s get a little community dialogue started. If you don’t want to spam anyone’s timeline, you are more than welcome to stick right here, where I’ll be here to live-blog as well as show you tweets from the tag in one place below. And you’re welcome to join! But if you’re staying on Twitter strictly: remember to follow @NickWalsh and @NoWhiteNoise.
[**] This is important. It’s EDT, not EST. It’s Eastern Daylight Savings Time. So anyone outside of the United States, or anyone in a non-Daylight Savings participating timezone, adjust accordingly. It’s essentially UTC -4.
The schedule should go somewhat like this:
9:30pm – “Welcome to Hellmouth”
10:15pm – “The Harvest”
11:00pm – “Witch”
11:45pm – “Teacher’s Pet”
Then, remember, we return Monday, May 28th (Memorial Day) at the same time for THREE episodes in a row, as well as every Monday throughout the end of Summer!
How to watch
Remember, if you’re watching with us and don’t have any of the DVDs (or VHS tapes!) that the entire series is available on Netflix, Amazon VOD (and free with Amazon Prime), iTunes, and Zune (Xbox); the first season DVD is available new for $19 (which I think is too expensive for a season a decade and a half old with 12 episodes, to be honest) on Amazon; and unfortunately, they don’t have it up on thewb.com. You can also watch on Hulu! The first season is only available on Hulu Plus, but subsequent seasons are free! And, of course, there are other ways to get it. But we won’t discuss those here.
