Real Housewives of New York Review: Royal Tourettes Syndrome

Are you guys so bored of this season? Because not gonna lie, but I checked out on more than one occasion during last night’s Real Housewives of New York. Maybe it’s because the drama is nothing new or maybe it’s because I’m sick of watch grown women throw tantrums on the level of my three-year-old nephew.

If you incessantly talk about something and claim not to care about it- NEWSFLASH- you effing care! If you didn’t care, you wouldn’t talk about it and you wouldn’t think about it. There is no shame in Ramona admitting she was hurt about not being invited to London. The rest of the cast was invited; friend of no friend this is a group of six women on a show and yes I would be insulted if I were her.

However, Ramona and Heather are just never going to see eye to eye. They butt heads for the same reason certain friends of mine will never be friends: they are inherently too similar. By that, I mean that neither Ramona nor Heather will shut the hell up. They are both the boss of themselves in business and in life, not to mention having a plethora of other stuff in common.

Bawling out Sonja for going on a trip without her was déclassé. Not to sound like the Countess here, but there is a place and a time for everything and that was certainly not it. Especially because Sonja didn’t do anything wrong. It is not Sonja’s fault that certain people don’t hit it off.

Onto everyone else, Carole saying that Luann had royal tourettes syndrome was pretty hilarious. It’s true, but that’s kind of how this whole crowd is. I mean it wouldn’t be an episode of Real Housewives if people weren’t name-dropping or label whoring! Also Carole, to even have to ask if you’re in the one percent? Come on, I know you are smarter than that. 

As for Aviva’s intense reliance on her husband and her hypochondria, I will point blank admit that I have a diagnosed anxiety problem and watching a woman who doesn’t even want to go to a restaurant on a high floor without holding her husband’s hand sets off some alarm bells. Obviously we’ve all seen the previews where they go off on her on another vacation about needing to chill out. I’m not saying that her anxiety isn’t legitimate; everyone’s anxiety is different. I’m just saying that it is workable.

If it seems like I’m being extra harsh this week, I will admit it’s probably because I am. Maybe at the ripe old age of 26 I’m outgrowing this franchise, or maybe certain people’s antics have pushed me to my limit. That said, I’ll try and end this on a positive note and say that there is still a lot I enjoy. Carole is undoubtedly my new favorite character and I’ve done a 180 on my feelings for Luann and now like her. Sonja still remains my number one bitch, after all, how can I resist someone who would rather stir the drinks than the pot?
