I swear, if this show gets picked up for another season, I don’t think I can stand to keep watching it. The immaturity of the characters makes me wonder why I’m just now bothered by how stupid they all are, because it’s not like they were ever smart kids to begin with. Maybe I excused everyone because they were younger then, and had so many issues, especially Ricky. He actually turned out to be one of the most sane characters, despite his troubled past.
However, even the adults are acting like children now, ignoring their children and dressing like hookers in church. Yes, that means you, George and Kathleen. Even though he clearly knows that Amy and Ricky aren’t married, George doesn’t say a word to them, and probably blabbed to Kathleen, which is how Grace and everyone else around town will find out about it. George must be taking anger management classes, because I thought it was really out of character for him to not get into a screaming match with Amy and push her away again.
I actually applauded Amy for admitting that she needs to grow up and empathized with Amy more in this episode about her feelings towards her parents. Shortly after Amy had John, Ann had Robbie and whisked him off to live with Mimsy. I get that she felt an obligation to take care of her mother, but it wasn’t the right decision for her to up and leave while her daughters are still in high school. Robbie or not, she hasn’t been emotionally or physically available to John as a grandmother, and makes way more of a fuss about Ashley, taking her to Paris and running after her to Italy. Amy called George out on the same thing a couple seasons ago, so Ann should have known better. Even though it’s weird for her to leave her own family and start a new life with Ricky and John at such a young age, she basically made that decision for herself when she chose to not only keep John, but to move in with Ricky.
Some other little things that bothered me about this episode were that Jack made no effort to tell Madison how he felt about Grace, and that Omar’s mom just dropped by Adrian’s place on accident. Is she a Jehovah’s Witness or something? In addition, It bugs me that Adrian is still living in Leo’s condo, and that she said “pigmentation” like she reads the dictionary for fun or something. Also, how did Grace know that Ethan knew how to play the organ? And where does she get off complaining about being lonely? Having no boyfriend is inevitable when no guy respects her standards, but it’s her own fault that she pushed her friends away and has nobody to hang out with anymore. I thought it was funny that Dylan and her mom sound exactly alike on the phone, but it annoyed me when her dad tried to reuse the nickname “Cookie,” when that was Grace’s nickname earlier in the show. The only part that made me laugh was when Kathleen discouraged Jack from proposing to Grace, but told him that she still needs some sort of commitment. Did anyone else think of George Michael and Ann getting “pre-engaged” on Arrested Development?
What did you love/hate about last night’s episode?
