Awkward. 2×06 ‘What Comes First: Sex or Love?’ review: I traded in my tenor sax for my Tender Saxton

I can’t be the only one who was confused as to whether or not Jenna and Jake went all the way in the minivan. As far as we know, they just made out, but they never say for sure. Though I’m a diehard member of Team Matty, I must say that my feelings for Jake waxed in this episode. I’m still frustrated that Jenna and Matty are moving into the “friend zone” and still hold onto the tiniest shred of hope that they’ll reunite, but Jake’s eagerness and vulnerability this week was absolutely adorable.

I find it rather unbelievable that Jenna would make yet another loudspeaker flub after the embarrassment she faced last semester, and that she’s still so ashamed to be the talk of the school. Tamara, on the other hand, brushes off the shame of her public urination quite easily, but still isn’t over Ricky. I predict that she’ll try to fight for him once she learns how serious he’s getting with Tender Saxton, but I’d love to see her finally grow up and play the field a little. I’m also starting to think that MTV is a tad bit racist, after they keep making the Asian guest stars mysteriously disappear. First Becca, now Fred.

As for Kevin and Lacey, the jury is still out, though it would be pretty unrealistic for them to separate and get back together again. That kind of thing only happens in movies like the Parent Trap, and quirky TV shows don’t always have quite the same happy endings. Then there’s Aunt Ally. I never really found her that entertaining last season, but I guess enough fans did for the writers to bring her back. The wedding and the ties between Jenna and Sadie that it implies will make for a great story line, though Sadie could have spilled the beans to Jake anywhere, that’s just how she rolls.
