Remember when I listed Phoebe Tonkin as one of the 6 things I want to see in TVD‘s next season? Well, apparently, my (and the whole world’s) wish is the writers’ command! According to Zap2it (and every other major TV website, Claire Holt, Julie Plec, and Michael Trevino), Phoebe Tonkin is joining The Vampire Diaries in its fourth season!
Tonkin will play 19-year-old Hayley, an old friend of Tyler’s. Her first appearance will be in the 3rd episode of the season. Apparently she has “a tough, intimidating side that could just give Caroline a run for her money.”
Isn’t that the best news ever or what? I’m already shipping her character (even though I haven’t met her yet) with half the men on this show; can you believe it?! PHOEBE TONKIN ON TVD? It’s going to be glorious — October 11 can’t come fast enough!

Best news ever! True, I don't know what Hayley will be like but Faye was awesome and her character on H20 was the opposite of Faye apparently. You're only shipping her with the guys? ;)
H2O is on every weekday here and I've started watching some of it after Spongebob finishes. Phoebe's awesome and they've already got Claire... I think they're trying to collect the whole set. TVD and TB have all sorts of supernatural creatures - it's time for some mermaid power :)

It's awesome news but I wonder sometimes if Julie Plec knows what's going on with her own show. Isn't she the one who said Phoebe wouldn't be in the show because "she's too old" or something?
yeah she did but let's hope she isn't doing this for fan service and stunt casting. I don't want another Sebastian Roche situation.

Uhh, I hoped that she would get a break-through and join some critically-acclaimed awesome show(OUAT, Mentalist, Teen Wolf, does not matter, something of substance), but TVD? No no no no.
She was THE best part of TSC, but TVD is known for under-using and completely ruining recurring characters. At best she will get a ~2-3 episode run as plot device and then die, at worst, she will be forgotten by the writers, like Bonnie's cousin was.
I do not see them giving any substantial roles, because the tvd-universe revolves around the holy queen of mary sues Elena Gilbert and her decisions and feels.
If you think she's a mary sue in the show, you should read the books. Yikes. Don't get me wrong, I love the books and the show but hearing what a special snowflake is all the time gets beyond annoying.
Funny you say that, because IMO, Elena in the books is a superior character.
She is the opposite of mary sue in her traits and personality(being aware of how others view her and using that, being selfish and manipulative, a bit short-tempered and cruel) and a lot of what she went through is quite relatable.
Sure a lot of it is written in usual teen-style because its still teen-romance novels, but her character is pretty much amongst the best things about the books. And Despite her being quite special in terms of importance in the books, Characters are at least allowed to question her decisions and actions and you have her FOILS like Meredith constantly calling her out on stuff. Book Elena, despite all the specialness, is the definition of an ice queen with a heart of gold, who is capable of being merciless and stepping on people's heads to achieve what she wants, but is also very protective of people she cares about. .
I would take furious, independent, a bit cruel queen-bee book-Elena over caring, flawless, caring, flawless, caring, flawless, caring useless tv show Elena any day.
Because watching a relatable, flawed over-achiever blow up at people and make mistakes, use people, hurt people, help people certainly helps to balance out her special status as the centerpiece of the show. TV Elena has none of that and instead sports a brand new and shiny and spotless bella-swan-ish personality of caring messiah.
TVD is not known by that. I mean, this season they've screwed up a bit with recurring characters, but in my opinion, the first two seasons were great, with all the characters with a great storyline... I mean, I believe they can go back to the way they were and use the new characters wisely, giving them storylines and making us love them.
In S1, maybe. And even then by the end of Season one they already have thrown all the recurring characters introduced that season under the bus to hype up S2 characters.
Since Season Two the show has not introduced an interesting or worthwhile recurring character in any way. All recurring characters introduced since S2 were purely used as plot devices and then killed.
