Michael: It’s already September. Which means: the new television season is about to begin, and we here at NWN can hardly contain our excitement! There are so many new dramas and comedies set to premiere the next couple of months, we know you’ll have a hard time sorting through them all. That’s why we’re here to help you choose. Guinevere, who covers all the new pilot news, came to me and asked that we make a post of our most anticipated new shows.

Guinevere: I like a good drama, and this fall it seems like I’m in luck. Because let’s face it, the new drama-selection kinda rocks. When I was thinking about the ones I was the most excited about, I really couldn’t decide. Luckily for me, Michael also chose a couple of the dramas which I’m really excited about. (Thanks for that!) I mean, everyone kind of digs The Following and Cult already! Right? I cannot wait for Kevin Bacon to pop up at my screen on a weekly basis without having to rewatch Mystic River over and over again. Although I will probably rewatch it at some point. Haha anyway with that being said, these are the ones I’m also excited about. From the much anticipated Arrow, to the latest Ryan Murphy project The New Normal!

Michael: So this is how it’s going to work. We’ll separate our choices between all the major networks, and we’ll both choose one show we’re excited about. Ready?

ABC

When a missile submarine defies an order to launch missiles towards Pakistan, the submarine quickly becomes the hunted and the crew are left for dead. They seek refuge on an island while declaring them as a sovereign nation with nuclear capability. This series has many known faces like Scott Speedman, Autumn Reeser, Robert Patrick and Andre Braugher. And from the looks of it, we’re in for a super-intense, wild, watery ride. Seriously, I cannot bear the excitement by only watching at this very cool promotional picture.

Last Resort premieres Thursday September 27 at 8/7 c on CBS! Check out the trailer.

Wednesday could possibly be the new Thursday for the CW
I’ve actually had the pleasure of checking out all the pilots from ABC’s new shows — and Guinevere stole my choice! Last Resort is seriously ABC’s best new pilot. It’s too bad they’re putting it in their death slot. (ABC hasn’t been able to launch something on Thursdays at 8 in years.) Second best, however, is Nashville the story about a mature country star getting no love from her label while the new and popular country-borderline-pop star is all the rage. The pilot, just like 666 Park Avenue, starts off quite one dimensional and typical. But, unlike 666, the final scene will very much hook you into watching the second episode. Damn you, ABC soaps! That said, I don’t think it could ever veer into classy Revenge territory or even trashy yet absolutely addictive Dallas territory either. This series may live or die by riding the fence. But people will definitely tune in! (Besides, Hayden Panettiere is this season’s Shelley Hennig in the…uh…cleavage department.)

Nashville premires Wednesday, October 10th at 10/9c on ABC! Check out the trailer!

CBS

Inspired by the true story of Sheriff Ralph Lamb, Quaid plays a fourth generation rancher who is tasked with bringing order to Las Vegas in the sixties. That’s not without any issues, ’cause Chiklis’s character Vincent Savino, a ruthless gangster, is scheming and planning to make Vegas his own. The trailer shows Dennis Quaid in his element, and my hopes for this show could not be higher at this point!

Vegas premieres Tuesday September 25 at 10 PM on CBS! Check out the trailer by clicking here.

I probably should have included Elementary here, especially with all the bad things everyone and their mother is saying about Partners, but the truth is I’ll most likely check out Partners. And I may never get around to Elementary. To be frank, ever since Ghost Whisperer was canceled, I have never truly tuned in to any CBS drama. But a sitcom by the creators of Will & Grace? Sounds great already!

Partners premires Monday, September 24th at 8:30/7:30c on ABC! Check out the trailer here!

The CW

This is the CW’s latest superhero installment, based upon the DC Comic “Green Arrow.” You might recognize Arrow‘s hunky leading man Stephen Amell from a guest spot on The Vampire Diaries, and leading lady Katie Cassidy from almost every show on the CW. If you’ve read the comics, I’m pleased to say that Arrow doesn’t mess around by already casting Deadshot, Smoak, China White, The Huntress and a peek at Deathstroke’s mask. The show itself looks action-packed and has a dark feel. As far as I’m concerned, Wednesday could possibly be the new Thursday for the CW, with Supernatural and Arrow being paired up.

Arrow premieres Wednesday October 10 at 8/7 c on the CW! Watch the trailer.

Surprise, surprise! Michael is very excited about The CW’s Cult. But I AM! I really, truly am! I know, it’s not fall, but I’m going to do this again in this article, where I’ll choose a midseason show instead of a new fall show. But let’s be honest: Beauty and the Beast is going to tank and Cult will be in its timeslot in a month. (I’d say The Carrie Diaries, but that’s destined for Mondays.) Cult is quite honestly the most ambitious and original new show of the fall. Yes, I just said that. About a CW series. Yes, that happened. Though there isn’t much known about the series as of yet, especially any promos, the script review from Travis Yanan was good enough for me!

Cult premieres in midseason.

Fox

Of all the new shows, the comedies aren’t really on the top my list. How could they be really, with all these really good drama’s premiering this fall or midseason? Nonetheless I’m really excited about this one, from the serialized chick-flick carried by Mindy Kaling comes The Mindy Project. I’m definitely checking this one out.

The Mindy Project premieres Tuesday, September 25 at 9:30/8:30c on FOX! Check out the first episode.

Need I say it again? Kevin Williamson, hello!
Once again, a midseason show. The Mindy Project was quite good, I won’t lie. But my most anticipated new Fox show of the season has GOT to be Kevin Williamson’s The Following. Why? Need I say it again? Kevin Williamson, hello! Please, Mr. Williamson, execute your awesome storytelling and never leave the show like you did another show. Fox is seen by Emmy voters! Anyway, the series follows a serial killer who, after eight years of being in prison, has trained others to kill just like him. And it’s by Kevin Williamson. So, yes, I’m looking forward to that.

The Following premires in midseason. Check out the trailer.

NBC

You guys remember Terra Nova right? Well this is NBC’s shot at a high-concept show, only without the dinosaurs! No I’m just kidding. This new series actually looks pretty amazing and it’s by the hands of J.J. Abrams and Eric Kripke! The show kicks off 15 years after a mysterious blackout that knocked out the world’s power grid. The world has gone back to basics and they’re being tormented by Captain Neville (Esposito). Aside from a stellar cast (Billy Burke, Giancarlo Esposito, Zak Orth), this project seems ambitious and could be NBC’s new hit if they treat it right.

Revolution premieres Monday, September 17 that 10/9c on NBC! Check out the trailer.

Honorable mention: The New Normal. Check out the first episode.

NBC used to have some of my favorite series. But little by little they keep ending and the network keeps trying out godawful shows. In short, nothing on NBC’s slate intrigues me. I’ll probably check out The New Normal (but only for Chuck writer alum Ali Adler). Otherwise, the pilot episode of Matthew Perry vehicle Go On was actually not at all bad, in a very good way. I laughed. Multiple times. And that’s all I ask from a comedy. It’s like the poor man’s Community — and that’s actually a compliment, because Community is just that good. So I’ll most definitely be back for more!

Go On premieres Tuesday, September 11th at 9/8c on NBC! Check out the first episode.

Now it’s YOUR turn to tell us which shows you’re most excited about! And remember, there are dozens of shows premiering this fall — help keep track with our handy dandy calendar.
