True Blood 5.08 ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ photo recap

Hey, guys! As promised, there is a photo recap this week. Ta da!

 Overall thoughts:

I felt that compared to the awesome episode last week, this one just wasn’t nearly as entertaining. My reasons are as follows:

1) What was the point of the Luna/Sam arc? Was it just for the lawls of seeing Sam Trammell act girly?

2) I felt like the end to the Don Bartelo storyline was too abrupt, especially after the cliffhanger last week with his crazy wife. I thought we would see more of her this episode but I guess she just let Lafayette go offscreen.

3) I’m not a fan of how the Ifrit storyline is being handled. Rather than a kill or be killed situation, I would have liked to see Holly, Arlene, Terry, and the Seargent team up together to take the monster down, though I suppose there is still room for this to happen.

4) A lot of the “tense” situations this episode just weren’t actually tense. We know that Hoyt isn’t gonna shoot Jessica. We know that Alcide isn’t going to get his head bashed in by RJ. There was no sense of danger.

However, I do feel like a lot of the blahness of this episode comes from the fact that it had the tough job of setting up the course for the second half of the season. A lot of the storylines got a fresh breath of life. We have the Ifrit storyline taking a sudden turn. The Eric vs. the Authoritah storyline is raised to new stakes with Bill’s plan. Mom and Dad Stackhouse’s killer vamp knows he’s being chased.

I dunno, guys. Am I being too harsh? Leave your thoughts down below and thanks for reading!

  • OMG!!! Lafayette Sassy's moments ... Awesome!!! the best thing in the entire episode (i'd missed them). I'm just mad because tara and pam only appear by 2 minutes and nonses storylines' Fangoria Bar (I ship them so much). Sookie has a new lover vampire obssesion. Please Bitch C'mon!!!!

  • I still enjoyed the episode and Bill clearly means to get vampires wiped out at least I think so because the show harks back to the point Bill made in season 2 about being self-loathing and that flashback and question of why he did not turn his dying daughter at least to me has more meaning.
The one thing I am not getting is Eric, he was anti-main streaming and trublood user when we met him and in all the time we known him I have never seen the dude drink trublood. Now I am suppose to believe he embrace loving and co-existing with humans. the only non-vampire he cares for is Sookie. So I am not buying this good vampire Eric.
I do think this was more of a set up episode though.
Last time I check sex is somewhat like training, I mean they were "working out".

    • I don't think Eric was exactly anti-mainstreaming but I think he was pretty apathetic towards humans in general so I agree that it's kind of weird that he suddenly feels strongly enough to risk his life to take a stand on this issue.

  • Dang. Again not on the same page as this recap/review. I didn't think it was the best episode of the season but I still thought it was WAY better than the last episode with Tara stripping and that awful vampires on E story arc.

    • Hahahah maybe we just have really different tastes in entertainment? thank you for reading anyway!

    • Both episodes were pretty awful in my opinion. But I don't know what is worse. Tara living up to media stereotypes of black women or her being told how to handle racism by her white master?

      • Agreed on all counts. I am highly perturbed by the way Tara's character is being treated right now.

        • I too agree with this but I haven't been liking the treatment she's been getting for awhile now. However the fandom reaction to her is bit ridiculous their dislike/hatred for her makes little to no sense to me. I do have give TB props for glamorizing the civil war period and at least Tara in season 1 had opinion on her status and history (unlike some other vampire show that just keep the tropes coming then play dumb when called out on it).

          • Yeah, compared to how TVD treated the civil war, honoring our founders bullshit I do give TB props as well. But this should be expected of any show that wants to realistically portray black characters in a modern southern town setting. I just couldn't take Bonnie's non-reactions, going with the flow, seriously. And of course the way TVD likes to use euphemistic language like "hand maiden" instead of slave.
