A year ago today, I pulled the trigger on a little (horribly named) blog. I had been writing reviews all summer (mostly for True Blood) and somehow a few people had actually found it, but I never publicly linked it anywhere.

“It’s just not ready yet,” I used to to think to myself. In those days the blog, which started out on Blogger, was titled No More White Noise but once I realized that the name was too long to get a Twitter handle, I shortened it to NoWhiteNoise. It all began in February of last year when I wrote my very first review for an episode of The Vampire Diaries (which you can read here in all of its weird formatting glory from being copied over). It was for a joint blog called Fangnatics but I knew that wouldn’t last long and I’d soon want to start something of my own. And so I did by writing (horrible) reviews, until September 14th, 2011 when I finally decided to link it somewhere someone would read it.

I asked DarkUFO on SpoilerTV to become a writer on the site and he agreed. My first review of the new television season was for Sarah Michelle Geller vehicle Ringer. It was published on September 14th, 2011. And that’s the day I told people, “Hey! This blog exists! Look at us!” This is why I consider September 14th the official launch date of NoWhiteNoise.

The first look for NWN that you never saw.

But I could never have gotten this far if it weren’t for the awesome support that the site received. So I must first thank you, anyone who’s reading this right now, for coming on to NWN and reading our posts and giving any actual weight to what we have to say. I’ve said it so many times, and I will continue to say it, but that means the world to me. I’m even more grateful that people actually “get” what the site’s all about, even when I don’t — you guys acknowledge our analyses but also understand when we’re just having fun. Thank you.

Thank you to the many writers who make NWN a blog that actually has, like, content, which I hear is a requirement. Since most of us have busy schedules and none of us are getting paid to do this, I want to thank all of you for your hard work and dedication to the site. In our short year we’ve even gotten inquiries from people that write on “actual” sites that would like to contribute. I love you all!

Thank you to Heba, who became a senior editor several months ago, who has been a tremendous help as being my right hand man (woman?) when it comes to site decisions and everything in between.

Thank you to Price Peterson for never publicly calling me a disgrace, if he even knows who I am.

Thank you to anyone who has ever linked to anything on this site. Your help and dedication is endlessly appreciated.

It’s been a crazy year. We started out small and we’re still small but we’ve united to talk about the thing we love the most — television! And some of our stuff has even been recognized. There was that time Scott Porter linked to this article and Bill Lawrence tweeted this article and Carina Mackenzie tweeted this post (and maybe another I’m forgetting). We were able to ask Stepfanie Kramer a few questions via email. And we interviewed the author of Supernatural: Rite of Passage. In this year, I’ve been able to accomplish the number one goal I had: receive a television screener, which I did officially this summer when TNT sent me Dallas. Most of all, I’ve been able to share my ideas and thoughts with likeminded, awesome individuals. We ran a summer long rewatch for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and trended worldwide on Twitter; thank you to Nick Walsh for that! And I’ve been able to do it while creating amazing relationships! So thank you to everyone that has ever had anything to do with making NoWhiteNoise whatever it is today.

Thank you to everyone. I love you. Here’s to another year!
