I’d like to say sorry to anyone who was offended by both the show’s portrayal of Wade/Unique’s trans lifestyle and anything I had to say about it last week. I feel like we’re kind of in the same boat now, as the writers totally massacred what it’s like to grow up with an eating disorder. When you’re dealing with it, it’s extremely private and shameful, yet the show uses it to get Marley out of the room during Kitty’s number, then to get her and Ryder together. Never in a million years would Ryder catch her gagging herself in the bathroom with the stall door open. Since the show also has a history of making story lines magically disappear within 1-3 episodes (Hello, Quinn in a wheelchair, anyone?) we probably won’t see any more of Marley’s stint with bulimia. I don’t know whether to be disappointed over how unrealistic it is for her to get over it so quickly, or to be happy to see it gone so that they can’t make me more upset than I already am.

One contrived moment in this episode that actually worked out well was when Sue reserves the auditorium so that the glee club can’t rehearse for the musical. Using the tire shop fit nicely, though I really wanted them to call April Rhodes for help. Sadly, the only cougar in this episode was Cassie. I have nothing against older ladies gettin’ some, but I thought Brody would have a little more respect for himself. I get that Rachel gave him mixed signals by telling him it was over between her and Finn, then going to Lima for the musical, but ewwww! Just…ewwww. I never really liked Brody and Rachel is even less likeable and more annoying this season (her classic cry), so it’s no skin off my nose if they don’t get together. I predict it’ll get dragged out into a real love triangle, which means more Cassie (blech) and less Lima.

Speaking of Rachel crying, there’s so much thievery going on in this episode it’s disgusting, and it’s all in Cory Montieth’s dialogue. I’ll excuse the whole moose/muse thing because Suburgatory only used that line two weeks ago, and I understand both shows film their episodes months in advance. However, his monologue about Rachel’s four cries was definitely stolen from Win a Date with Tad Hamilton, who stole it from themselves first! If you haven’t seen the movie, Topher Grace tells Josh Duhamel about Kate Bosworth’s six smiles, which he uses to get into her pants, then Kate’s character surprises Topher’s at the end by telling him about his five smiles. Anyways, it’s adorable and they totally ripped it off! This is the kind of unoriginality I’ve grown to expect from Glee though.

As soon as I saw Marley in the catsuit in the final number, I started to wish they hadn’t used it in season one, but I really liked what they did with all the old couples. Well, most of the old couples, because they completely ignored Samcedes once again. They made such a huge deal over them last season, especially in ‘Yes/No,’ only to drop them now, leaving Mercedes with absolutely no story line. They could have completely left her out of the last two episodes and nobody would have cared. As much as I hate Diana Agron on the show and in real life, she made the right decision in not taking Ryan Murphy up on his ridiculous offer to let all of the original characters stay.

As for the music, I’m glad they went with all Grease songs. ‘Greased Lightning’ was adorable, and we actually got to hear from Sam for two seconds! While I hate when they break into song in the middle of dialogue, I loved the transition from rehearsal to performance, it was all very true to the musical. I can’t stand Kitty, but her rendition of ‘Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee’ further highlighted her character’s cattiness, even though they misused Marley’s bulimia to complete the scene. Another thing they could have left out was her continuation of the song. Though Melissa Benoist has a beautiful voice, I felt like they made light of a serious issue again by telling the audience that it’s so easy to stop any sort of self harm when a boy starts to like you. Moving on, Blaine’s ‘Beauty School Dropout’ was cute, as were all of Sugar’s facial expressions, though the audience on the show would never see them because she had her back turned away the entire time. My only complaint about ‘There are Worst Things I Could Do,’ other than Cassie and Brody together, is that Santana’s part was completely unimaginative. I know it wouldn’t be right to give her any choreography, but they could have at least set the stage to look like a drive-in like in the original performance.
