USA Network to have a new morning show… at night

USA Network and Gary Sanchez Productions are in talks of a new late night show designed as a morning show, as TV Guide reports. The production company, run by Will Ferrel and Adam McKay is behind movies like The Campaign, Stepbrothers, the website Funny or Die, and the upcoming sequel to Anchorman.

Though USA’s never had a late night program, mainly sticking to reruns of their original dramas, the potential show would be modeled after other morning programs like the Today Show’s Kathie Lee and Hoda hour. It’d be different in one way: it’d be hosted at night. Or more accurately at 12:01, making it the first show of the day. The show would act like a completely legit morning show — coffee cups and all.

The executive producers would comprise of Robert Cohen (writer for The Simpsons) and Owen Burke (producer of The Virginity Hit), who “want it to be a comedy-type program, but not a parody.” In the upcoming months they hope to hire a male-female duo for hosting, currently looking into a large range of individuals for the spot.
