Lead Actor in a Drama Series

Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad

If we learned one thing this year, it’s this: Bryan Cranston can do no wrong. From 30 Rock to Argo to Breaking Bad, Cranston has mastered all genres. His portrayal of Walter White continues to be one of the most compelling stories on all of television. Heisenberg deserves the nod.

Hugh Dancy, Hannibal

Hannibal is possibly the best new drama on television currently. It’s of cable caliber. And Hugh Dancy’s Will Graham is equally striking to watch. Dancy plays Graham’s illnesses realistically and memorably, and there’s no way going into work for 12 hours a day doing that can’t be tiresome. Just for his work ethic alone, he should get a nod.

Damian Lewis, Homeland

All of the awards. Every single one of them. Just like colleague Claire Danes, Damian Lewis absolutely perfected his character on Homeland this season — playing mysterious and jaded without ever feeling dishonest. And to be frank, his performance in the series’ season finale was downright heartbreaking.

Andrew Lincoln, The Walking Dead

Andrew Lincoln continues to impress as the lead of The Walking Dead. His performances are so grounded and downright compelling. Now that The Walking Dead basically became television’s number one drama, maybe the Emmys will finally recognize him. We can all hope, anyway.

Matthew Rhys, The Americans

If there’s anyone who should be making an upset at this year’s Emmys, it’s Matthew Rhys. Rhys is just fantastic on The Americans; for us, he upstages most on the show!

Kevin Spacey, House of Cards

Kevin Spacey transitioned into his House of Cards character seamlessly. His portrayal was spot on.
