teen wolf 310

Our characters are once again holed up in just one location for another episode this season, thanks to a storm that conveniently allows all the werewolves to play hide and seek in the hospital due to an evacuation. But that’s OK, because it was a lot of fun.

Towards the beginning of the episode, Teacher/Jennifer/Julia/Darach (TJJD or T-Double-J-D, if you will) goes to Derek’s house to tell him not to listen to anything that Scott or Stiles say. “They’re lying! I am pretty! Let’s make out!” OK, so she doesn’t actually say those things verbatim — but one of her concerns with Derek finding out she’s the Darach is in fact her creepy face and whether or not he thinks that’s her real face. She says it’s superficial, but it appears, as she explained, she doesn’t identify with being something so hideous (in more ways than one). Though I’ve got to say, comparing her multitude of “sacrifices” to Derek’s one mercy killing was a bit of a stretch, no?

Derek’s not buying it. He wants to kill her and he wants to do it now! But wait! She’s the only one who can help Cora stay alive, who is unconscious at the hospital. He takes the bait, and basically drags her by the wrist. But once they arrive, Deucalion and his crew have already shown up.

While Scott, Derek, Peter, and Stiles With a Bat are trying to take out the twins, TJJD finds it quite the opportune time to sneak out. Not so fast; Deucalion makes her halt in her tracks. He wants her head — literally, and she’s willing to do anything to survive. That includes, by the way, helping Cora stay alive and telling Stiles where his dad is, as long as she gets out of the hospital in one piece.

Soon, everyone takes their positions. Scott and Peter will duke it out with the twins. Stiles will take Cora to one of the ambulances that are going to be making their way out of there. And Derek will escort TJJD out.

Just one problem: Derek and TJJD become the new Dan and Serena, stuck in an elevator with nothing else to do but work out their problems. Sure, Dan and Serena broke up when that happened (and then in a later season decided to do it and do it and do it well) and here TJJD decides to knock him out unconscious, but it’s sort of the same theory. So she makes it out, but not before explaining to Derek that killing Paige in the location he did it in technically sacrificed her virgin blood so that she could survive after she was brutally attacked. She also decides to explain to Derek the myth of kissing under a mistletoe while he makes a “is this done yet?” look — and I share the sentiments, Derek. Though, I suppose it was kind of interesting to learn about since I didn’t know up till tonight, anyway.

They still need to create a distraction. So, Team Scott, the Argents, and Isaac stop and think. “Which teacher is it?” Mr. Argent asks. “The one with brown hair. She’s kind of hot,” Isaac replies.

“That sounds exactly like me,” Allison says, creating a plan to let Deucalion and his crew think she’s actually TJJD and make them run outside to an attack unwittingly.

Regardless, this was all moot. TJJD’s plan all along was to just go and kidnap Mama McCall. Yes, as you’ve seen in the trailers: Mama McCall is missing, in the hands of TJJD, who is sure to sacrifice both her and Sheriff Stilinski. See, she needs guardians … and parents are forms of guardians, perhaps the highest form. We’ve been duped! She wakes up in the same room where Paige died, opposite the Sheriff. Talk about a setup for the midseason finale.

Deucalion tells Scott that he could have told him what TJJD’s plans were if he had only joined his side. Stiles makes one final, tearful plea not to join him (which, by the way, Stiles did a lot this episode), but Scott’s got no choice. He walks into the fog with Deucalion.

“This is going to be the start of a pretty effed-up friendship,” he says as they fade into the night.

Elsewhere: Stiles gives Cora mouth-to-mouth and has one of the best lines ever (“Next time my lips are on your mouth, you better… be awake”); the Argents and Isaac prance around the hospital looking really intense; and Scott told his mom to go home but then she didn’t. I mean, it worked out when she was being all badass, but now she’s tied up and about to be sacrificed. Ç’est la vie.
