YM: Oh, well, I mean- Jane! I feel like Jane is amazing. Without a doubt, Jane. Jane and then probably her grandmother.
MM: (laughs) Oh yeah, she’s great!
YM: I’d like to have like Café con leche with her and just ask her for advice. But, Jane- the way Gina plays her- she’s just like the most likable person ever. I love Jane and I love the way Gina portrays her.
MM: I totally agree. So how different is your role on Jane the Virgin from say your roles on Alpha House? Do you prefer comedy over drama? Is there a difference with prepping for them?
YM: Well my character in Alpha House is very different than Luisa. She is an extremely powerful billionaire heiress in total control. She’s just totally different. As far as playing comedy- it is nice to go to work and really try to not laugh, because you’re having so much fun you’re like, oh god I can’t do this. I think that’s the best problem to have. But I do enjoy drama, and I really like Jane the Virgin, because I get to do both. I get to do these crazy comedic things, and then Jennie always finds a way to pull it into some type of drama, you know? So I like that I get to do both. I mean, I really don’t prepare that differently, because you always have to find something that’s truthful to connect you to it. At least me, when I see a scene that I know I wasn’t connected to, It’s very obvious to me. I was like, playing for the comedy, and it never works. So, I kind of prepared a scene for both of them.
MM: Well that’s great. It’s awesome that you can do both, and kind of interchange them when needed.
YM: I feel really lucky, pretty much everything I was doing was dramatic. I was dying to do a comedy, but people don’t see you as comedic until you finally get that one chance. Everyone just thought I was a dramatic actor. So, I’m very grateful that I get to do comedy now. It’s nice.
MM: We’re grateful. We love you on the show.
YM: Thank you!
MM: You’re welcome. Now getting back to the story a little, the audience is under the impression that Luisa has run away with Rose, aka Sin Rostro. How forgiving would you be if you just found out that the love of your life was a murderer and a drug mastermind?
YM: (laughs) Well, the truth is- I actually have no idea what Luisa is up to right now. Jennie hasn’t told me. So, I actually really have no idea what’s going on. So that’s true. But, let’s see… how forgiving would I be if the love of my life was a murderer? I would kill him. I would not be forgiving at all.
MM: (laughs) Yeah, I think that’s the normal response.
YM: (laughs) How twisted would it be though, If I was like, “No. The thing is, love conquers all. I’d forgive him.” No… I wouldn’t at all.
MM: Now are you Team Rafael or Team Michael?
YM: Oh my god. I was actually thinking about this the other day, like really thinking about it. The last scene on episode fourteen that Justin and Gina had together, literally made me tear up and I cried a little bit. Now I’m team Rafael.
MM: I was torn for a little bit, and then I was like, not anymore.
YM: As far as actors go, they are amazing. Brett (Dier) is one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. And Justin is just lovely. But after that scene I was like, oh, that’s it! They got me!
MM: (laughs) You’re roped in! So, if you could guest star on any show, what would it be?
YM: Well, I’m fortunate enough to be guest starring on one of my favorite shows, which is True Detective. But I would love to guest star on The Americans on FX, something that’s a period piece, or like Agent Carter. I would love to do a period piece.
MM: Agent Carter is a good one.
YM: Both of those are actually spy shows, so I guess something like that. I don’t know. That would be a fun guest star.
