‘Jane the Virgin’ star Yara Martinez talks Dr. Luisa Alver, fans on social media and the future of #Roisa

MM: I guess you can’t really tease if you’re going to be in upcoming episodes, because you don’t know what’s going to happen.

YM: Well, I’m definitely going to be in a couple more episodes before the season finale.

MM: Yay! So we can have some hope there, that things go right. In season two, we see you again. I mean, the fans want to see you pose for a NOH8 campaign photo with Bridget. Would you be open to that idea?

YM: Oh my god, of course! I don’t even know how that happens. Is it just, we’d have to take a picture of ourselves or something?

MM: I think the actual campaign, the person who runs it (Adam Bouska), has certain shoot days at various locations.

YM: I think Andrea (Navedo) who’s on the show, did one. Of course, Bridget and I would totally do that. That’s a good idea, actually.

MM: Fans would love that! So, do you have any hidden or special talents that we don’t know about?

YM: Oh my god… do I have any special talents? Oh god. These questions make me feel like the most boring person in the world. Can you give me examples? What would be a hidden talent?

MM: Well this wouldn’t really be hidden, but this is a weird talent- I can play the recorder with my nose.

YM: How did that even happen? How did you figure that out?

MM: I think in elementary school, everyone had to play the recorders and kids were like, let’s just try it with our nose and it just worked out!

YM: (Laughs) Do I have a special talent? Hmm…

MM: Maybe just a unique fact about you, that people may not know?

YM: I could sit in a chair and read books for hours and hours. My hidden talent- watch out people!

MM: Serial reader!

YM: Oh, I’m double jointed. I have double jointed thumbs. Yeah, I don’t know. I have to work on my hidden talents.

MM: We’ll take it! I had a question from a fan asking about Luisa’s wife and if we’re ever going to meet her.

YM: I don’t know. I honestly don’t have the answer to that, but I’m curious too.

MM: What shows are you currently watching? Is there anything binge-worthy for our readers?

YM: Well, Transparent. That’s on Amazon and is a great show. What else am I binge watching? I mean, I love Portlandia. Black Mirror is amazing. I’m going to say Alpha House, everyone should binge watch Alpha House! (laughs) And I love The Good Wife… I really like The Good Wife a lot. Oh and I watch Girls, too.

MM: I think those are all very binge-worthy shows. It’s easy to knock out all the episodes. So, now are you working on any projects that the fans can look forward to? You had mentioned a show or two you were working on.

YM: Well, I’m waiting to hear if Alpha House is going to get a season three, and then I’m working on Jane the Virgin currently. I’m also currently working on True Detective. So, that’s pretty much it for me right now. It’s amazing- I’m on two of my favorite shows. It’s crazy.

MM: Now is there anybody in Hollywood that you are dying to work with?

YM: Well, I mean there’s always the goddess Meryl Streep. Who else? Cate Blanchett I would love to work with. Catherine Keener, Frances McDormand. God there’s so many. Jessica Chastain. There’s a lot.

MM: There was one more question from a fan asking if you are a Ruisa fan, but I’m assuming you’re on that team!

YM: Yes, I am. I am all about that toxic relationship. I would like to see the table turn, but I’m all about it. It’s super fun.

MM: I think the fans have really taken to and they’ve hopped on that bandwagon. It’ll be something you’re known for for a long time, I think.

YM: It’s so nice, it’s so flattering. I was so worried. I have a ton of girlfriends that are gay, and I was like oh my god, they need to approve of this. They need to believe it. So I was so happy when my friends were like, “You did it. We’re proud of you.” But also very happy to see people responding to it.
