The ratings are in — and usually we don’t report them, except for when I have a vested interest. NBC repairing itself is one of my vested interests and everyone’s eyeballs will truly be fixated on tonight’s ratings with the real premiere of The Voice and Smash. Anyhow…
Last night’s Super Bowl XLVI, in which the Giants defeated the Patriots, was seen by 111.3 million people and received a 40.5 in the 18-49 demo, making it the most-watched television event in United States history. That rating is only slightly higher than the last Super Bowl which stands at 111 million overall but the demo is a 16-year best.
The Voice bolstered a 16.3 18-49 rating and 37.5 million viewers overall overnight rating which is 27% higher than Fox’s post-Super Bowl Glee episode last year (11.1/1), according to NBC.
That’s the best a post-Super Bowl show has done since Grey’s Anatomy in 2006 (16.5) but, of course, falls way behind NBC’s last best Friends in 1996. Yes, it even beat Undercover Boss from two years ago.
Once again, tonight is the true test for NBC’s success with The Voice and Smash‘s premieres.
