Which shows have you quit this season?

The best thing about television, unlike films, is that they’re in your house once a week, so you begin to grow a deep connection, a relationship, with them. But the worst part is that you grow a deep connection, a relationship, with them… so it’s hard to drop them, even when you know you should. So you stick it out until the awful, bitter end.

But there are those times when you are given the power to willfully decide, “You know what [show]? We’re through. It’s not me; it’s definitely you.”

Breakups are hard. But sometimes they’re easy. What shows did you quit this season? Here are a few I quit, ones I quit and returned to, and others I probably should quit.

We’re through: Glee (May 2009 – October 2011)

When Glee first debuted, I was its biggest supporter. I couldn’t wait for the “special preview” they were going to air in May, and once I saw it: I couldn’t wait for September all over again. Those first thirteen episodes in the fall of 2009 were spectacular: great performances, funny storylines (if even just a bit ridiculous), there was even some heart that kept me going.

Then, Glee suffered the quite possibly longest hiatus any network show has gone through during the same season. Cut to a year later and after every episode I still had no idea why I was going to tune in the following week. That’s what happened after I watched “Asian F” this season. Every single television critic or reporter and their mother clamored on for seven days of how “Asian F” was the. best. episode. ever. And then it aired — and it wasn’t great. Not for me. Far from it.

Personally, Rachel sounded better than Mercedes in the audition! And they’re trying out for a role as a Hispanic woman! Come on.

Anyway, that’s beside the point. I just didn’t care to follow these stories anymore. I was over it — and now we’re over. Tear. But, I did watch “First Time” and 20 minutes of “Michael,” so I guess we occasionally hook up… and that’s all I can take.

Mutual breakup: Hart of Dixie (September 2011 – October 2011)

I watched three episodes of Hart of Dixie and decided it was over. Hart of Dixie reciprocated, citing that we just didn’t jive well together. It wasn’t anyone’s fault really — just, why pretend to be something we’re not?

Hart of Dixie is a very nice, comforting, very fluid and easy show to watch… it’s just not for me. A show that has no idea who its main character is and with more love geometrical shapes than any season of Gossip Girl, it can be a bit redundant. Not to mention that every episode I saw was basically the same formula over and over again.

No one likes Zoe. A patient needs her help secretly. She saves the day. Everyone congratulates her. She’s still hated next episode.

On again, off again: American Horror Story

When American Horror Story premiered, it was the worst pilot of the season. It truly was god-awful. It was seriously such a train wreck it hurt to watch. In fact, my review of the pilot dubbed it “American Train Wreck” because it was so disastrous. But I couldn’t avert my eyes the next week.

And the following week, and the week after that… But the week after that week, I stopped watching, only to pop my head in again a couple of weeks later and stay until the end. For better or for worse.

Now, I’m having trouble deciding whether or not I’ll tune in for season 2.

Mistake from the start: Two and a Half Men (September 2011 – October 2011)

I’ve watched Two and a Half Men in syndication, but never really first-run. However I, along with many other people, decided to tune in at the beginning of this season. What I found was four-in-a-row unfunny episodes. And so I stopped.

Fling: Grimm (October 2011 – October 2011)

When Grimm premiered, I thought it was one of NBC’s newest shows that was actually pretty solid. I figured I could really get into this show, and it was on right after Chuck, so I could watch with ease. Then, I watched the second episode, and I’ve never been so bored in my life. I haven’t tuned in since.

It’s almost over: Fringe

It pains me to say that I’m beginning to be bored by television’s most ambitious show — but it’s true. A few episodes ago, I found myself checking out during the story. Last week, I left half-hour into the episode. And last night, I didn’t even try to tune in.

I’m not upset at all about a different timeline — in fact, I couldn’t care less, and I watched vigorously when Peter wasn’t in the episodes earlier this season… but somehow now is when I’m beginning to feel as if it’s almost over. Hopefully, I’ll watch the past three episodes this weekend (or sometime soon) and change my mind.

Growing tired: Once Upon a Time

I’ve never watched this show “live;” I usually skip a couple of weeks and then catch it On Demand… but I’m beginning to realize I just don’t care. I don’t care about any of it at all.

Henry claims there’s another world; Emma doesn’t believe him; someone dies; something or another happens; now there’s a guy with a typewriter.

I’m waiting for that moment where I feel compelled to watch the next episode — but it has yet to arrive. And I fret it never will.

So, what are some shows you quit this season?

  • I totally feel you with Once Upon a Time. I watched it this week and was just like... whyyyy... I don't know if I'll quit yet ;)

  • Fringe is on my list too, could never get into Two and a half Men so I left it after first episode are two,
The Vampire is still hanging on the about to stop watch still hoping it will get better not worst, Agree about Hart of Dixie but still watching for now and I'm the only person I know who doesn't care about Wade but loves George(sp) Rachel Bilson just wasn't meant for that part are she should have been al lawyer instead of a Doctor.
Grimm undecided not sure of OUAT I think Amercian Horror Story getting new cast is shooting itself in the foot they have enough storyline with all the dead and alive people from season 1 they could work with so it might be a goner too

  • I think last weeks Glee was probably my last. I keep putting up with it because I love a lot of the actors on the show even though its become so terrible, but I really can't sit through the Finn/Rachel show any more. Remember when characters on this show got storylines that didn't route back to Finn and Rachel?

I also gave up on 2 broke girls, I quite liked the concept of them trying to earn money to open a bakery, and I stuck with the lame jokes thinking it would get better, but when they said that the girl who bakes the cupcakes uses a mix instead of making her own it just killed the whole show for me.

  • TVD, I had to quit last season though. It got ridiculous. New girl, I loved it but I got bored. And Pretty Little Liars, it was perfect and now... it's ridiculous too. They used to play the shock factor so good and it's like they realized that and they made it happen every 5 minutes in every single second, it got old.

  • don't quit Fringe yet, Mike! seriously, it's getting better. watch the episodes you missed and you'll change your mind!
I'm not the kind of person who quits on shows, but I kind of stopped watching Glee on episode 5 of season 3. I want to continue it and I will but right now I don't feel like watching it. Glee was so much better once.
I stopped watching Supernatural too, but I keep quiting and coming back for this show so I'll probably watch it again soon.

  • The Mentalist - season 3 finale gave me closure and I hated how they wanted to continue the main storyline in season 4 instead of trying to start something new.
The Office US - Andy is a HORRIBLE choice to be a replacement for Michael Scott.
True Blood - Season 4 was just awful and I don't plan on watching season 5.
Haven - Another show that had a horrible season. I'm not happy with how they handled new potential cast members and Audrey storyline. Plus Audrey-Brody relationship is a MESS.

  • im still in love with ouat, and i loved american horror story. im honestly really over gossip girl, the only reason i still watch is chuck and blair, and even that is getting exhausting.

  • I've quit "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" and it hasn't even started the season yet. I've watched it from the beginning, but the idea of watching even one more episode once the season starts next month makes me want to hang myself

Also, I've quit "One Tree Hill." Thank God it's the final season and we can get a new show to replace it on The CW's schedule
