Rendering of what Trump Studio City could look like.

When I heard this news, I just had to write about it here on NWN for two reasons: (A) It’s technically about television and (B) It’s in Miami, and y’all know that’s where I am located! Well…did you know? Anyway, you know now.

Actually, it’s Miami adjacent, but it’s still kind of Miami. It’s in Homestead, technically. I mean…It’s difficult to describe…so if you don’t live here: it’s in Miami.

So anyway, Donald Trump (who recently bought some land down here) was approached by a commissioner who has wanted to do something with this non-utilized land in “Miami” since 2001, but his efforts were to no avail — until he was able to schedule a sit down with The Donald earlier this year. What has come of this is Mr. Trump wanting to build a massive film and television studio in south Miami-Dade that would be twice the size of Universal Studios Hollywood. That’s huge, you guys! And it would all happen here! Trump’s legal counsel Michael Cohen and Homestead commission chairman Joe Martinez pitched the proposal today.

So, I have one selfish reason for wanting this to happen: imagine people actually filming television series right here in “Miami”!!! My days of never being close to actual TV filming, y’know besides Burn Notice and Dexter and failed Charlie’s Angels and Eve…well the point is that it could transform South Florida into a true TV/film hub! Besides, Florida already allows tax incentives! And I could be so near to it!!!

Oh, and also, I want the city’s economy to flourish and people to have jobs and all that jazz. (No, but seriously, that land has just been sitting there. I’ve always thought it could become a really great amusement park. But this is better.)

So, yeah! That’s what happened today. And I’m extremely excited. I know it’s going to pass. It has to. I mean, the city got some flak for that new Marlins stadium…but this is like foolproof.
