Kiera’s chip has only been working in her favor this season, until this episode. It only shows how vulnerable Kiera really is with her chip. I actually thought Kiera would decide to turn it off completely, seeing as she almost killed her partner! And once again one of my theories got confirmed, sort of.
Wow, I think this episode might be one of my favorites of the season. I loved that the more minor characters like Betty and Kellog were pushed to the foreground; Betty’s cool and geeky. And that hack-off between Lukas and Alec was great!
Every mother’s nightmare came true when two bètatesters for a simulation game killed two men in cold blood before committing suicide, while they were under some kind of hypnosis caused by the game! Of course this was all a plan courtesy of Liber8, tricking Kiera into playing the game. They managed to get the coordinates of her implanted chip, and began to hack into her chip to control her every move.
Luckily for Kiera, the game destroyed her chip and her whole system had to be rebooted by Alec. So she was safe until the reboot was finished. In the meanwhile Kellog has been spying and drinking with Lukas, so he figured it out really quickly and tried to warn Kiera of her impending danger! He didn’t find her on time, but was caught on the scene by Carlos. Carlos made the quick assumption of Kellog being a colleague at “Section 6” and allowed Kellog to stick around.
Everything became really good when Lukas finally hacked into her system and started to control Kiera. How creepy was she under his control? This didn’t go unnoticed by Alec, a true hacking face-off commenced and I loved every moment of it! Kiera really butchered Carlos in their fight and almost killed him. If it weren’t for Kellog and Alec, Kiera would have killed him. This raised a question because Kellog clearly has an impact on Kiera, whereas Carlos did not! Finally Alec switched of her chip and stopped a murderous Kiera! It turns out that Alec is a bigger genius than a genius from the future. The bad news is that Kagame knows about Alec, which can’t be a good thing. Dun-dun-dun!
It was really weird though, that anyone would decide to reboot their chip again after such an experience. I would never ever trust that thing again, even with an übergenius as a good friend. But then again, as showed last week, it’s the only thing she can actually trust!
The big surprise of the episode came at the very end. While rebooting her chip, Alec came across a hidden file. First, he assumed it was a memory or a corrupted file. As it turns out, it was a file written for the young Alec in her chip. This confirms what I’ve been expecting a while now, Kiera was sent to the past deliberately and probably by the old Alec. The why is still unclear, but it’s super exciting! With only two episodes left, we’ll sure get some answers!
