Poor Billy Mays must be rolling in his grave (may he rest in peace). Beginning today, the FCC has finally declared that loud commercials are no more. It’s all part of the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act (or CALM), which was signed a year ago (and yes, which took a year to finally be put in place). For the most part, it basically states that commercials have to be the average volume of whichever program with which they air.
You hear that? That’s the sound of people CALMly watching television without having to lunge for the remote every time a commercial comes on. Thank you, FCC.
If any ads violate the new rule, make sure to call 1 (888) TELL-FCC and report them.
