MM: Now, I heard you’re not a big fan of the selfie. With that in mind, what types of things do you like taking pictures of? Are you big into scenery, or…
KP: I’m not a big fan of Selfie?
MM: I read in an interview that you don’t have those moments where you’re like, “I need to take a selfie!”
KP: Oh! Selfies! I thought you said “Selfie” as in the T.V. show! I was like… I’ve never seen it.
MM: (laughs) No. The actual action of taking a selfie.
KP: Yeah, I just don’t get it. I just never have that urge, really.
MM: Are you into photography?
KP: I’m really into photography. I have a camera that I kind of use whenever I can. I’ve been really busy shooting for the last couple of months, but when I was in London I was doing a lot of it, and like assisting photographers and stuff.
MM: That’s awesome. Do you think that’s something you would take on full time if for some reason you ever stopped acting?
KP: I think it’s something that I want to do alongside of acting. It makes me as happy as acting makes me, and I think you have a lot more control as a photographer rather than as an actor. But acting is my favorite thing to do, and it’s the number one thing I’d like to do best.
MM: So obviously you’re originally from London, England. When taking on roles where you have to do an American accent, have you found that there are certain words that are harder to pronounce than others?
KP: Oh yeah. “Little” was the hardest one at first, and “Mom” because mum is spelled differently in England so it’s practically a different word. It’s really hard to say… it’s just really hard, and with this show particularly, it’s all about mums. It’s really not something that I can avoid. There’s another word- oh “mad”. Anything with a big vowel in the middle. A short word with a big vowel in the middle, like mad or mom- those are the hardest ones.
MM: When we last saw Carter she was getting abducted again. What’s different about this time? What can we expect from the season two premiere? In the beginning, she kind of wanted to go back to Lori, since she saw her as her mom, but things have kind of shifted. Is that going to stay shifted, or are we going to see as things unfold, Carter is on her side or she just thinks she’s crazy?
KP: Well I’ve only read up to episode eight, because we’ve only shot up to episode eight. But up until this point, I really believe that from now on Carter is never going to feel the same about Lori again. It doesn’t matter if Lori has a big secret. She’s still this woman who kidnapped her twice, and if she really cared about her- there are sane ways of getting your child (or the person you think is your child) back. If for whatever reason Lori believes that Carter should be with her, she should have tried legally to do that, you know what I mean? There are ways to do it. But because she didn’t do it like that, she did it some crazy way both times, and I think that had a big effect on Carter’s feelings towards her. And also she drugged her the second time, so I feel like even if all the other stuff was somehow explainable and Lori was redeemable in Carter’s eyes, drugging someone is just such a huge step. You’re taking away- that’s more than just convincing them to come with you. Drugging someone is just disgusting and taking it too far, and I think that really makes Carter draw a line under their relationship and what it was. She starts accepting that it’s over.
MM: Yeah, she definitely crossed the line with that one. But when it’s all said and done, will Carter be getting any new love interests this season? She kind of had it rough in season one and nothing really panned out…
KP: Yeah. Well, Crash is back, so she’s dealing with feelings that she thought she wouldn’t have to deal with, with him. As far as she knew, he was in jail and staying in jail. So she has to deal with her conflicted feelings about that. There’s some other stuff coming up as well, with other people, but I haven’t read it yet so I don’t know what it is, I just know that it’s happening.
MM: Well, that’s good. At least, maybe they’ll be a happy ending. I heard last season you guys made it your mission to get Cynthia Watros to sit on a whoopie cushion, and you guys succeeded. Who would you say is involved in the most pranks on set?
KP: Yes, we got Cynthia good last year. (laughs) She’s planning her revenge I’ve heard; it’s something we’re all aware of and all a bit scared of. She’s apparently going to get us back. So Cynthia does pranks, Anna does pranks… yeah, Cynthia and Anna.
MM: Nice! Now, what’s something you miss about London? Are you acclimated to the states?
KP: I still love London… I definitely prefer New York to L.A. But I’m really pleased that I was even able to live here. I wasn’t in a position where I could live here, and now I have to be here, so it was amazing that it happened that way. And then I have work here, but it yeah, it takes a while. There are a lot of things that are fundamentally different about America and England. I miss lots of things about England, but then there are also lots of things about America that we don’t have in England, so pros and cons.
MM: Definitely. I have an off the collar question now. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
KP: I always think about this one. Probably, I think to fly. I know that’s one I’ve said before. I feel like then you save a lot of money on travel, you could get away from it all very easily, I don’t know. Then there’s a whole host of questions like, how fast could you fly? I wouldn’t want to be able to fly really slowly, that’s kind of boring- I might as well get on a plane. I guess fly really fast, like faster than a plane.
MM: Just kind of to tie things up, I’m sure Finding Carter keeps you pretty busy, but are there any upcoming projects that we can keep an eye out for?
KP: There’s some stuff, but it’s not anything I can talk about right now, but I did this other thing a couple months ago called The Dovekeepers that’s coming out on the 31st of March. It’s like a mini-series about four women and the story of Masada. I won’t give away the ending, but it’s a limited event series on CBS.
