The Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2015 is upon us and this year promises to be bigger, wilder, and… greener. You know, with SLIME. (You can’t have the KCA’s without buckets upon buckets of SLIME!) The iconic awards show, one that relies on the fans to vote for their favorites, is highlighting this years best shows, music and movies. Every Witch Way, a notable series that is jam-packed full of drama, friendship, enemies, romance and witches, is up for its very own orange blimp, in the “Favorite TV Show” category. I mean, come on, a show with ‘witch’ in the title is bound to have a little magic in it, and is equally bound to be totally awesome!
Paola Andino, who stars in the Nickelodeon series as Emma Alonso, an unknowing sorceress who moves to Miami, and attends a new school only to find she’s not that normal glitter loving, bubbly teen she thought she was– but that she possesses magical powers. Not just any magical powers… but the most powerful magical powers of all. She’s basically the HWIC (Head Witch In Charge, lol). Or the Chosen One, if we’re getting all technical here.
Andino, who has always been interested in performing, is working hard to establish herself as an actress– and we think she’s off to a stellar start! NoWhiteNoise caught up with the young star, and got the scoop on her character, found out who she’s most excited to see at the Kids’ Choice Awards, and even got a hint on what she plans to wear on the orange carpet.

MCKENZIE MORRELL: Hi Paola. Congratulations on Every Witch Way being nominated for a Kid’s Choice Award, what was your initial reaction to finding out the series got a nomination?
PAOLA ANDINO: Hi, thank you so much! My initial reaction when I found out Every Witch Way was nominated for favorite TV show was of course, excitement and joy! The funny thing is that I was still in bed and just waking up. My dad came in my room and showed me the voting site on his tablet and I saw that Every Witch Way was in a category, and then when I looked at my phone I already had plenty of texts from our cast’s group message. Basically I was half asleep and the news completely woke me up.
MM: Can you describe Emma, your character on Every Witch Way? What’s one major difference between you two?
PA: Emma is yet isn’t your typical teenage girl. As the Chosen One (her generation’s most powerful witch), she fills the shoes of an adult job when she’s still a kid. Although this sometimes lands her in some trouble, she has to prioritize her time a little differently than the other students at Iridium High, especially when things get hectic in regards to the Magic Realm. Despite the position of power she’s in, Emma is still a loving, hardworking, and empathetic girl that can sometimes be really sassy and defiant. A major difference between the two of us would be her love of math. Her dad, who became principal of the school, was a math teacher before that so she grew up surrounded by numbers and equations. On the other hand, I personally don’t enjoy math very much!
MM: What are some of your other passions, I hear you used to dance competitively and you sang in a choir as a child?
PA: Yes! I’ve always been into performing. I think any form of fine arts in which I can express myself in some way has always fascinated me. Besides acting, I’m passionate about my studies because I’ve always strived to do well in school and my parents have encouraged me to do so, too. I don’t know what the future holds for me when it comes to college, as of right now but I see myself acting in films and potentially being able to branch out and explore other things like maybe modeling, for fun, once I’m established as an actress.
MM: You’ll be attending the awards this weekend, who are you most excited to see at the Kid’s Choice Awards?
PA: If Angelina Jolie or Emma Stone attend the awards this weekend, then I am most excited to see those phenomenal actresses. I would also absolutely love meeting Sam Smith. He’s one of my favorite singers and he’s so deserving of the success that’s been coming his way. There are still so many other celebrities I’d love to meet but I am for sure looking forward to seeing the host, Nick Jonas, and his performance.
MM: As a young actor making her mark in the business, do you have any words of wisdom for others who want to pursue a career in acting?
PA: My words of wisdom for anyone out there wanting to pursue a career in acting would be to commit to this 110% and take advantage of any opportunity that you receive. It’s also important to not become discouraged at the “no’s” you receive because this difficult industry is a marathon, not a sprint. Every “no” just brings you one step closer to a “yes.”
MM: What would you say to someone to get them to watch the show? Why is it such a great series to catch up with?
PA: To get someone to watch Every Witch Way, I would tell them that even though the magical aspect of the show is awesome in itself, that’s not what it’s all about. Our characters are still relatable and experience difficulties anyone could face when it comes to growing up, relationships, family problems, etc. It’s a great series to catch up on because the ending to every episode will leave you hooked and wanting to watch more and more as soon as you can.
MM: Can you give us a sneak peek or any hints as to what you’ll be wearing to the awards show?
PA: My hint as to what I’ll be wearing to the KCA’s this year is that it’s completely different from my fun and flirty look last year. I love my outfit and the fact that it’s simple yet chic and sophisticated enough to stand out. I’m ready for everyone to see it on the orange carpet already!
