Supporting Actor in a Comedy
Charlie Day, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
It’s Always Sunny in Philly is one of the most absurd comedies on television…and Charlie Day’s Charlie character even more so, but somehow he absolutely understands the absurdity (like the rest of the cast) and grounds it (if that’s even possible). Here’s hoping for an Emmy…or at least a bat with a nail on it to kill some rats.
Max Greenfield, New Girl
For a show all about Zooey Deschanel, Max Greenfield’s Schmidt sure does steal the spotlight a lot. And that’s because he knows exactly the right kind of quirky to display on New Girl, without feeling a bit over the top.
Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother
We all know the Modern Family actors are gonna dominate this category, but in our dream post, they don’t. The two actors who REALLY should get a nomination are two actors that almost play the same character: Max Greenfield and NPH. Those two have become the breakout stars of their shows – without them, their series wouldn’t be even half as successful. Schmidt and Barney FTW.
Jack McBrayer, 30 Rock
It’s hard to continue the same schtick for six years straight, but colleagues Jane Krakowski and Jack McBrayer have continued to do so…AND make their characters undoubtedly hilarious. Like Busy Phillips, there isn’t a line that McBrayer cannot deliver in his own tone and style. In a few words: there’s no one else who could play Kenneth. He makes us laugh when he’s onscreen.
Nick Offerman, Parks and Recreation
He’s Ron Effin Swanson. And Offerman plays that so well, sometimes it’s hard to believe that it’s just a character. And even though Offerman offers (ha!) us laughs in spades, he also plays Ron’s heartwarming scenes beautifully — and his out of character ones even more so!
Danny Pudi, Community
Is there anyone more deserving of the award in this category? Community is one of the most ambitious series on television today, but it would never be able to delve into its realm of insane reality without Abed — and we wouldn’t have Abed without Danny Pudi. You’ve seen Pudi play everything from pop culture-obsessed Abed to pop culture obsessed Abed playing a character from one of his favorite television shows and movies. Insanity. And he nails it every. single. freakin’. time. Give this guy an Emmy and then some, already! Dang.
